Default Bottom End Assembly (RS Machined 84.5mm)

Okay first off just want to point out that since i have never assembeld a bottom end before, I am not going to attempt this myself. But i would like to clear a few things up with you HT experts before hand.

Also, I have a full complete and running GSR motor in my vehicle right now so my plan is to install all of the missing componets form that block over to my new RS machined 84.5mm Block.

Now here is the pics and some questions.

This is the confusing mess I have (I bought an LS B18A block already sleeved but UNUSED but this is all of the junk it came with)

These are the caps that I think i need to use..but as you can see #3 cap is too short if I wanted to use the aftermarket girlde) Even the #3 cap on the GSR girdle is too short so WTF?

This is how i beleive it should look. Which this way it leaves a couple of caps left over which i bleive are all the LS caps.

Here you can see one of my many dilemas: The GAP on #3 cap

So, I guess the big questions that im looking to get answered here is what caps do i use? Can i use that aftermarket Girdle? Should I just stick to the GSR Girdle that it came with or use my own Gridle off my GSR?

PS I know that with whatever caps I end up using I will have to line bore my mains to this block.

Thanks but that makes no sense....I want to use a Girdle on my LS B18A block (which doesnt come with a girdle) either the aftermarket one pictured or the GSR one also pictured.

From your post I thought you had a sleeved GSR. If you add a girdle to a LS bottom end you need to machine the main caps. Many builds have been successful without a girdle, it is alot of trouble and expense to add one. I have seen write-ups on here and I am sure you can find some good info. You should use the main caps that came with your motor, as they are machined together. cannot be bought separate for a reason.

I am no pro engine builder or anything, but I would use the GSR 2-3-4 main caps & main girdle that are allready "together" in the background.

Personally, I wouldn't put any parts on my car that I don't know how they were manufactured, or atleast know the name of the company that manufactured them... especially something internal.

Natural Aspirations ---> Are you sure its not the bore of the block that needs to be machined to add a block girdle to a B series engine that was not equiped with such from the factory?

Don't use an aftermarket 3main Girdle on yer LS...just causes main bearing problems. The mains will move around and beat up those 3 bearings...

Sell that ****.

So I guess I should just stick with using my GSR Main Caps and Girdle on my running GSR? And scrap the rest of the junk?

Also Can I/ Should I reuse my main cap bolts on my running GSR (this motor is a 01 and only has 50K) over on my new LS block? Or should i get ARP? Also I assume this will still require my to line hone my block?

Thanks Super Dave! Hey you want to buy an aftermarket 3Mains Girdle?

the aftermarket girdle go on caps 2,3&4. try that and the girdle should fit. but i agree with supper dave. i never used those on any LS block. i figure if you want a girdle then buy a gsr block. good luck on your build.

your gsr main bolts will be too long for the center caps. re-using them one time around is no problem as long as there the right ones.

not trying to thread jack but im kind of have the same problem.
the plan is for a 84x89 vtec motor. currently i am running a stock bottom end gsr and i have an untouched low mileage jdm b20 shortblock. i have decided that i will need a block girdle of some sort in my build because i autocross/road race the car. either engine that i use will have eagle rods and high comp pistons. So my question is should i buy an aftermarket girdle (which seems like a pretty big hassle) or sell the b20 and with that money send off the gsr block and have it sleeved to 84mm.
note: obtaining an 89mm crank is not a problem
i also understand that the sleeving process will be slightly more than the b20, but is that a price worth paying for reliability and less headache with the girdle dilemma
