Default vtec head on non-vtec block

I have 97 SE Coupe and I plan to put a vtec head on it. Does anyone have tech info for the wiring, does the SE have wiring for vtec? Do I need the ecu? What head do you recommend? And Im also doing a tranny conversion auto to manual what tranny do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Head Swap is worthless. Run a search for the tranny swap.

Why is it worthless? I found a vtec head for like $250 seems pretty cheap for 25 horses.

It seems simple doesnt it? Wait for the other accord boys to chime in, there was a topic on this not too long ago. I failed to pay much attention to it because I am not avid of vtec. Hows the tranny search goin?

Did search and found a couple good links for converting the tranny! The only thing that has me worried is the shifter assembly seems like that will be a pain and the tranny mount. What do you think?

nothing too horrible. You can do it, just take your time and double check everything.

The vtec head will not fit on a non-vtec block

Actually yes it will but things will need to be modified. It is not worth the effort in a F series motor. Get an H22 it is worth it way more than the head swap IMO

Do you mean a DOHC VTEC head?
Do not the Special Eds already have the SOHC VTEC motor?

the SOHC VTEC motor was a dealer option on the SE I think. I bought my SE with the VTEC motor, but others have said they have the non-vtec so I dont really know.

there is no way VTEC could be a dealer option. I bet this guy has vtec and doesnt even realize it.

the h22 swap is well worth it and if you have the money to do this swap and do the tranny conversion at the same time, that would be your best bet....it's a lot easier to work in your car when the engine's out....but a head swap and an engine swap are two very different things that are very different in price...and the vtec head isn't going to give you all that much more power...you said 25 hp....but in reality it's around 5...the hp differences between the 5th gen lx and ex is only 5 hp...and the ex has a less restrictive header and muffler...so vtec might not even deliver hardly any power at all...but do what you want man...it's your car...

... and even if the head was a direct bolt-on, you'd need a VTEC ECU and VTEC oil and VTM signal lines. Lots of work and $ and not worth 15 HP.

huh?? whats this?? i personally think its a waste of time and effort!..with the amount of money ur spending for everything, u might as well just get a turbo kit!!

screw the sohc vtec head!..

either that or the lude swap!
if money's the issue, just save up!!..
