Default header for d16y7 need help/advice

friend has the same motor as me a d16y7 non vtec, we got a header that will bolt on to his stock piping, being obd2 it has two o2 censers,, one in the stock manifold and one right below the cat. on the stock manifold the cat it hook with the manifold then goes into the down pipe. the question is how exactly will i put the header on, i mean the header has a place for the 2 o2 censors but what about my cat, will i pass smog, and will i throw any codes. sorry if im just stupid i just want to do this right before running into pro,, thanks

not sure if you would pass smog. you won't throw a code if you leave the secondary O2 plugged in and drape it over the trans or tie it off out of the way somewhere. the only time i get a code is if i floor it below 2000 rpm (which is pointless anyway)

you're other option is to swap your b-pipe for an EX b-pipe and cat. then have a muffler shop weld in another O2 bung. that way you should pass smog.

you wont pass smog without a cat in there. tabby cats are nice.

anyway. like mark35 said so long as you retain the before and after cat o2 sensors and put in an OBDII cat you sould be ok.

I'm a little confused as to what you're saying, but just setting an 02 sensor out in the open WILL NOT keep you without a CEL long term. You'll need either an 02 simulator or to get a cat in there.

You can put aftermarket headers on a Y7. You can add a cat downstream. You'll still need one sensor in the header and one senor downstream of the cat. I never relocated mine, so I don't know if you'll have to extend wires, but I imagine you will.

Basically you're going from Stock to aftermarket. The red lines are 02 sensor locations. I'm still not really understanding your question so I hope this helps. The big blobs are catalytic converters. Nobody say a word about my sweet *** MSPaint skills either.

umm look at the pic above?
obviously you can no longer utilize the stock cat if you put the aftermarket header on, you get a different cat...

aftermarket header will either have an o2 bung on one of the primaries or on the collector, and the secondary o2 sensor needs to be plugged in after the new cat.

Do you have eyes, I even drew a picture? You have to get an aftermarket cat, put it after the header, and have an 02 bung welded onto the piping either at the cat or just downstream of it.

guranteed to fail smog with out a catalytic converter,

to run without no o2 is going to cause check engine light,

to convert it you will need an ex or si catalytic converter and a new mid pipe, then extend your o2 sensor wire. secondary o2 should be placed in the same area as originally designed, in the catalytic converter, while the first one is in front of the catalytic converter. just as Ricey McRicerton
drew in the upper response

you need to put an aftermarket header for a 96-98 ex (or any d with 2 o2's) a ex cat will bolt on just after the header then you can add an ex exaust or an aftermarked exaust for an ex

or just swap the whole ex exaust system

with two o2 holes all you need to do is to extend the o2 wiring to reach... nsolder and heatshrink tubing is better than crimps

most respectable header brands come with the o2 extension

& that pic got it right besides the o2 placement
most aftermarket headers have the primary 02 in the collector just b4 the flange
& the secondary o2 is in the cat on obd2 cars

so just buy a header
& an obd2 cat

to extend the wiring on my 94 civic i just cut the split loom and pulled out the wires and re-taped. worked like a charm. Also, the NTK 4-wire direct plug in for hondas part #24172 O2 sensor has a longer cable than most. Works perfect for my 94 civic.

All I did was get the correct gauge wire and shrink connectors and extend the harness. No pics of it uploaded.
