question about headers
i picked up some tri-y replicas and of course thyre longer so i would have to remove the cat. So i was wondering if i could get a bung welded up for the 2nd o2 sensor and just do away with the cat or do i need the cat? I dont know if it will throw a check engine light or not.
Yes, you can have a shop make a bung for the o2 sensor on the new header, however, it will not act as a catalytic converter.
The Tri-y header comes with an extender piece as an option that will bolt up to the collector of the header and to the exhaust b pipe. If you get that piece, there is no need for a cat, but you will throw a CEL no matter what.
The only way to clear that CEL is to do the o2 extension in order for it to be present but not read the exhaust gas going out. This will clear the CEL from the dashboard, but you will still not be able to pass a "legitimate" inspection.

^^^VTEC has nothing to do with the o2 sensor, its directly affect by oil pressure, oil levels and the ECU
If there is no inspection, then get whatever header you want. Even with a test pipe, you WILL throw a CEL. It doesnt matter if the test pipe has a o2 sensor attached to it. It will still read higher than normal, therefore, the only way to remove the CEL yet still have the o2 sensor in place is to extend it so that it does not have direct reading of the air passing through. It can be done for about $4 and a bit of your time.

you can get any adjustable test pipe off ebay, passwordjdm, and i think this site has group buys on items. vtec will still work as long as the cel has no nothing to do with the solonoid itself, or the ecu, dizzy, or the speed sensor, i may have forgotten a few, but thats a starter.

not 100% accurate. some codes will prevent it and put the ecu into saftey mode. the 02 is not one of them since the ecu does not look at the o2 during WOT anyway
My last integra had the CEL on before i did my o2 extension on it, and it ran the same with or without it on. Oil level/pressure will affect VTEC, as it sends out signals to the ECU, which them makes it run in limp mode. This is so that there is no damage to the engine while the oil is low or pressure until you get to fix the problem.
The name of the brand is "HELP!"
You would just need to find the proper threading, I forget what it is. If not i would provide the information but I have done this a year or so ago. I purchased 2 of them, screwed them together, and then finally threaded the o2 sensor on it. It provided me with the clearance I needed in order for it to read lower than usual. This caused my CEL to go off, and Ive never had any problems. I spent a total of $4 i believe, and some time getting underneath the car. I actually have the cat that it was on, and i believe it is still there. Let me get some pictures for you.
It just came to me...lol. Took me a bit of thinking but i finally managed to remember what is the exact name for it.
Brand name: HELP!
And they are actually Spark Plug defoulers. You would just need to get the right threading and size, which you would be able to find out by referencing your o2 sensor.
It can be found in Autozone, Pepboys, and RS strauss
If you search on the web, you will see the exact size you would need.

ok thanks for clearing that up guys. right now i have a cel that reads cat below effiency (bad cat) and i thought my vtec wasnt wotking because of it. Im just trying to figure out whats wrong with vtec on my car. I took it to a shop and the vtec selenoid opened anually but wont work normal. thats the only cel i have also
If thr solenoid passages are clogged, it will not work right. Clean that out and replace the screen filter and gasket on it, assuming there ins nothing wrong with the solenoid harness and signal.
