thinkin bout selling 2000 si and building eg...
kay first off i know your not my personal accountant or financial adviser, so if you dont wanna help out dont, and dont leave goofy comments either . NOR 4 THE QUESTION- kay im thinking bout sellin my 2000 civic si to sum goofball who will pay up to 10-11k and was wondering if i bought a eg coupe id swap motor out and use money towarda build now ... if i bought eg coupe from friend 122k miles clean title 2500$ and had all the money left over is it possible for me to build a 9 sec. car and if so what is best for b20 setup roue ill go w/motor....k thx.. all ideas appreciated and when i sell single cam off eg ill sell 4 low so be on lookout as i will hook up fellow honda-tech members
dude not to be a dick or nething but u dont decide how fast your cars gunna be buy how much money uve got it depends on if you kno how to do sum of the stuff what your expierence is and what you already have id say sell the si buy tht hatch get a b17 block arias pistons eagle connecting rods and a good sleeve build a nasty b16 head and boost 20 or so psi plus a real good tune you could def have a 10 sec car its just a matter if you spend your money wisley my buddys got about tht same setup with a precision t4 turbo and he runs 10.4s
hrrmmm taking a stock eg and making a 9 sec car with 8000 dollars.... i dunno buddy. selling 00' si for 11000 dollars i deffinately don't know. but you should be able to make it decent... posibly. depending on how bad you get riped for a motor and turbo kit. but hey anythings possible. also check my thread if you want a decent motor for your build

Define "street" car. Sport FWD class has cars in the mid 9's, and they are streetable.

There is no way you will be able to do that . You will not even come close with that amount of money. You couldnt even really buy the right turbo kit and build the motor for that much. Depending on the turbo kit you could spend a little more than 6,000 with full race on the kit. But if you look around and find the right deals on some new and used parts you could def build a fun fast car for under 10,000

Ya, he's sorta right. If you have a 9 sec FWD chances are it's not street legal.

The US has emissions testing, but it's not ****-like like Cali is. Cali emissions laws are just fucked up. In NY here, '95- cars don't need any emissions testing. Unless you import a car from Japan where there's NO emissions laws you have to have it modified to meet US standards, but it's still NOTHING like Cali.

No way you'll hit 9's. That's just impossible for 11k. Motor is going to cost about 3k. Turbo + misc engine parts 3-6k. Car 2.5k. That's already 11k and you haven't even bought slicks, traction bars, rear springs/shocks, dyno tuning, shock dyno, track rental to tune gear ratios, wind tunnel testing(downforce) etc. Its not just a slap together job that anyone can do, otherwise, every rich guy would have a 9second fwd civic.
Ask the 9 second guys how much it costs to build a 9 second car. They would probably say somewhere about 80-150k

i think the question is, do you not like your SI? if not then sell and buy the EG. if you do then most likely you wont be able to pick up another SI in a long time. but i've put about 6,000 in my EK engine alone and haven't even got to turbo it yet
and thats with me doing all the work myself, and i dont have emissions here so anything goes with me, and i'm just dipping into the 13's. even if you put a Kswap into an EG and spen the rest on maybe the TODA engine package you might get into the 11's. i dont think getting the power to go 10-11's in 1/4 is hard it's the supporting mods like a cage, slicks, traction bars etc.... that will run you a few more pennies. good luck on what ever you decide

ok, I know you said you don't want financial advice but I'm just showing you what it's cost to build up a b20 vtec NA(prices are assuming you have 0 hookups)....
B20 block 400
b16 head 600
type R tranny w/ LSD 1200
Sleeve Motor, port/polish head - 2000
new pistons rods, etc.(basically a full rebuild)-1200
CNC ported ITR IM-500
Race header-650
cams& valvetrain-1000
**** load of tuning-500
that's already over your 8k budget, and to be honest, if the eg was gutted completely, your an excellent driver, and your on slicks, and I still don't think you'd be anywhere near 9s let alone 10s...maybe 11s somewhere plus, that (like some already mentioned) doesn't include any external weight reduction(CF, FAL windows, etc.) or things like traction bars or a full roll cage(which are reuired for cars faster than 12s...I think might be 11s)
