Default remove block without removing gearbox?

i am replacing my block this weekend with my spare cause of a bad head gasket.

is it possible to remove the block after detaching gearbox?

i want to save driveshaft removal, gearbox draining and stuff...

is this gonna be harder than it is worth?

should i just do it properly and save mucking around...

TIA,

t..
