Default Rear brakes dragging

Ok ive had issues with my brakes before so its not too surprising that im having more trouble.

about 10k miles ago i put on new shoes because mine were shot.

well i started noticing alot of brake dust building up on the rear wheels and now my rear brakes are screeching, i think the shoes are already shot. Anyways, i gutted the rear portion of my hatch for another project and now i can hear the brakes dragging.

i did not put the shoes on, a friend did it for me at work (toyota dealer).

i already adjusted the ebrake but thats not making a difference. What could cause the rear brakes to drag so bad that it could wear them out in 10k miles?

what should i be looking into replacing to fix it?

if its too much ill just do a disc brake swap, but id rather save my money for other things.

i searched but only found 1 thread on dragging brakes and didnt really give me much info.

i read something about the adjuster inside the drum, i understand how to use it, but my friend said he adjusted it when he installed the drums. possibly done wrong?

thanks for any info

its near impossible for your adjusting wheel to over adjust, check your brake drum, could be warped or out of round

never heard of such a thing but that doesnt mean it isnt possible.

but i believe the cables are fine. they arent damaged or anything like that.

what about the spring inside? i havent had a chance to open the drum and actually take a look.

or even the hydrolic part of the brakes? i know that they are hydrolic too, so there must be some sort of cylinder or similar device in there correct?

i dont know anything about drum brakes, and hardly anything about brake systems, so thats why i dont know wtf im doing lol

Well, water can get in and rust the cable. Ive seen it many times. Its very common in VW's and Nissans.

yep, mine would get stuck sometimes. so I had to crawl under on the pass side and jiggle the parking break cable. Then it would release and be back to normal. I fixed it by not using my parking brake anymore
