Default AC question

I have a 96 civic dx, it's ran fine for 60k miles or so, but now the ac is screeching when i hit rpm above 3-4 with ac on. I was told my compressor is going out, then someone else told me I need to add oil to my compressor (never heard of this).

Anyone have info? thanks

It's called "Mineral Oil" for your A/C compressor. And yes you could be low if you have a small leak or if you do not cycle your A/C often (winters if u know wht I'm talking about).

BTW, it smells like crap when you open a bottle of this stuff.

No, no, no. Don't use mineral oil. A "96" has a 134a system that uses PAG oil. BTW, thats probably not the problem. A weak compressor clutch will cause a screeching noise when it slips.

yippers... sounds like a loose belt.. if it were a bad compressor/clutch assy then it would squeek whenever the a/c was in use..

Thanks guy's i'll try the belt. now that I think about it, its probably the belt, about 40,000 miles ago the timing belt (i think, it runs the ac and all that) split in half, so i cut half of it off and been running on a half a belt for awhile, eheh

bad idea man......if that belt snaps you have some serious head and valve damage......might want to get that fixed
