TDC question on gsr....
i already have my head on and i was spinning the crank pulley to see of it would spin freely and it did....how do i get it to TDC??...i have the tdc mark on the pulley aligned to the arrow on the oil pump..is that tdc??
Yes the single mark on the crank pulley is TDC when lined up to the mark on the oil pump (also on the tbelt cover). You can also confirm TDC by placing a long screw driver in the #1 cylinder and turn the engine over until the screw driver is at its highest point.

that's it
the center mark between the two mark is 16 BTDC the single tick mark all by itself is TDC. Use that one.

The splined pulley, which the timing belt loops onto behind the crankshaft,
Also has a mark to align it to the oilpump cover,
so you can get it together before having to put the Actual crank pulley on.

I think one of the splines had an arrow on it, But the keyway probably was around straight up,
I just replaced my belt a couple weeks ago, so it's still vaguely in my head.
Also, I'm not sure if you have done a timing belt, or what your past experience with it is but...
When you finally get everything lined up, and the belt is on, it should have a lot of slack,
Just start turning the crankshaft CounterClockwise and soon as it tightens up, then tighten the belt tensioner.

wut are splines?? so when u keep rotatinf the pulling counterclockwise the belt will get tighter then u just tension it after??

The Ribs, or Teeth on the gear, that keep the belt in place.
And about turning it counterclockwise, it's not even a full turn, maybe half or less,
and your belt should feel more then snug, then you just tighten the tensioner back up

wut other things can u tell that the motor is on tdc???...keyway is up on the crank ....pulley is aligned with the oilpump arrow...cam gears are facing UP along with their keys...

TDC is defined as the piston being at the top of its travel on the compression stroke. It's not just about getting the crank pulley lined up with the piston at the top of the travel. You also have to make sure all valves are closed on the #1 cylinder, which they will be if your cam gear index marks line up and the arrows point up.
