Loose ground wire - 97 EX V6
My tachometer starts going crazy sometimes and then just goes normal or "dies" completely. A mechanic told me that I most likely have a loose ground wire somewhere. Assuming that is what is going on can that lead to something worse or should I be OK to drive it like that. I need to drive 1000 miles on Sunday.

those clusters have been known to go bad...Normally the speedo but the tachs do to. I replaced my cluster cuz the speedo was acting up and the new one had a bad tach... It would jerk and it would be off by a few grand here and there...
If you had a loose ground other stuff in cluster would act up

It has nothing do to with the cluster. The coil pack on the 95-07 Accord V6's are causing the problem. There is basically a point were continutity is gained and lost were voltage is changing across the circuit. The tachometer gets its signal from the coil, and you are seeing the static (sort of) or interference caused by the faulty coil. You will notice the tachometer flutter from time to time, or the car will not start at all 5 times a year, and you cannot jump it or anything it is simply dead. All because of the coil. There is a TSB about it. Ask the Honda dealer about the TSB for 2.7 nonVTEC V6 Accord ignition coils, they should know what is up. As for it affecting drivability I do not know, I told the dealer I wanted a deal on a new coil because my car was out of warentty. I paid for labor, they paid for the part.
