Yes, you can add a header (not headers) to your otherwise stock exhaust system. However, don't expect much of a gain in performance from simply bolting on an eBay header.

u have a d series motor?

i have an ebay header with apexi ws exhaust, sounds beautiful.

like padawan said, dont expect much of a gain, your header with stock exhaust wont do much without an exhaust system

its not because hes using a stock cat-back, its that the header is from ebay.

you won't notice a gain with our without an aftermarket exhaust .... they're both going to net you 20hp on the butt-dyno tho.

No, you are misinformed.

You will feel a difference from simply putting a header on a car, ebay or not.

The difference won't be much of course, but you can DEFINITELY feel a difference. I've installed quite a few for ricer kids and each time I test drive the **** outta the car to make sure it's not leaking or anything. You can definitely feel a before and after difference, not much, but definitely feel one, if you can't, you suck at life.

at OP:
Just FYI the megan header from ebay is a knock-off, not a real megan racing header...lemme guess, 20 extra hp for 49.99 or some **** like that?

Pick it up though, you'll feel a bit of a jump in your D16, won't be much, but you'll feel it, trust me on that one, I've installed it for people too many times.

Yes it can be done, and it's a D series motor so there's no sense sinking a lot of money into it unless you're hookin it up for turbo. An ebay header is a fine investment for a D-series motor that you just wanna bump up on natural aspiration.

It's simply not worth buying an apexi exhaust, AEM intake, and DC Sports header for a D16Z6...you'll be pushing 120 instead of 105 at the wheels, big deal. That's what I learned, names don't mean **** in the world of bolt-ons on SOHC engines.

listen to this man. he knows what hes talking about. also...i didnt check where you lived...but most ebay headers are "for offroad use". i dont pay too much attention to **** like that since i have an ls vtec but if you're worried about smog, make sure that you keep your stock ones just incase. unless you dont live in ca...other states may not matter.
i only say this because my buddy has a single cam vtec in his 94 eg and he had a megan header and when the cops rolled him they hit him with a ref ticket because his header didnt have a visible carb-legal sticker on it.

Thus why I said "butt-dyno" .... it means you'll feel more than is actually present. You think your car is way faster because it feels a teeny bit punchier and it sounds deeper.

Won't really be all that benefitial to increase flow on the first part of your exhaust system, the rest of your exhaust will act like a cork

Thank you I know what you put.

Give me two cars exactly the same 'cept one has a header and one has a stock mani, header could ebay, whatever. I'll put headphones on it doesn't matter, I'll pick whichever one has the header every single time.

Exhausts are a bit different because they spike differently in the powerband, but you can always feel throttle response on a short bore intake, and you can always feel more power with a header, and like I said, if you can't: You suck at life.

Sure the header's not gonna make it so the gforce won't let you out of ur seat...but you should DEFINITELY feel a difference, even if it's an ebay header, won't be much of a diff, but you should definitely feel one.

Don't believe me? Time a coupe's 0-60 20 times.....assuming your finger's not broken and your eyes work you should be in circum same hundredths of a second every time. Put a header on there, do 20 runs - your times will be less. No they won't be 3 seconds flat, but they sure as expletive'll be less.

Your thinking makes sense. It flows better because right at the exhaust ports there's less pressure, the larger the piping there (header) the less force is pushing against a piston that's coming up to push the air out. In other words, regardless of the exhaust you have you're pushing less air out therefore there's less resistance on the piston's path to TDC. If you're wondering why it doesn't get bottle necked at the end of the header is because your typical engine typically isn't putting out enough gas either way to block up the whole exhaust, so it free flows either way, you only need a bigger exhaust around circum 180 whp (for a D-series) before it starts slowing you down based on constriction -- "Your exhaust isn't always full" is the key part here.

Haha, none of that matters here in NY, carb, no carb, etc. CA's the **** police on cars capital of the world by far >.<

I just picked up an edelbrock 6792 proflow/shorty header $132
a magnaflow 15641 catback $177 (retails for $370)
and a magnaflow cat for $70
all brand new.
I would think the stainless steel edelbrock better than youre generic run of the mill ebay header.
Waiting for it all to ship, i'll try and post somethignn in here on my results on the butt-dyno.

See, I guess there's a difference. I put a header on my stock B18B1, and you know what? It sounded worse and performed worse. My car felt sluggish off the line (more-so than normal), and I seemed to be lacking some high end. Headers are the suck. They perform well on the butt-dyno, that's it. I don't believe you have enough knowledge about cars and experience driving them to blind/deaf test a car with and without a header.
