Default Engine Check: P1163 HO2S11 Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)?

To All,

I had an engine chek light-on and i found out that the code is P1163 HO2S11 Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1). Do you have any idea this code means? or Should i replace the O2 sensor?

Btw, i have a 98 honda civic hx (manual).

replace the o2. that code means the o2 sensor isn't responding fast enough compared to changes made by the ECU.

yes this is the o2 sensor. if you have 2 o2 sensors then you need to replace the first one on the exhaust ( the nearest one to the manifold or on the manifold )

Let me know if you still have a problem as I fought this problem for nearly a year.

I remember your struggle with this problem. Is the information at this thread and at this thread is still applicable?

So, has anyone resolved this? I took a look at that service bulletin on one of those links, and found my freeze frame data was in that envelope on it's last occurrence, so I'm trying to find out what I can while diagnosing it. My biggest question is if anyone did get a replacement ECM, what part number did they use? I just called my local dealer service and dealer parts and asked about the -A31 to -406 specified by the bulletin. The service guy said he seemed to remember doing a couple fixes a few years ago but couldn't really help me, and the parts guy said that shop had never sold a -406 unit, and they cost $989 +tax. So if they've fixed them there, but they've never sold one there, what are they using?...

Check to see if you have a crack in your exhaust manifold. Especially remove the heat shield and look under it in between runners 2 and 3.

i think i might have a small hair line crack where the o2 sensor goes in. i didnt think it would affect though.. i did know my o2 sensor needed to be replaced and it got rid of the 1162 but im struggling with the 1163.. what would be the symptoms of a slow response on the o2 sensor. also if i get headers would it be a direct fit for the post cat sensor as well to fit without adjusting the length?
