Default Car rolls forward while parked in gear.

Today I parked my car in my driveway which is at a slight incline. I left the car in second, turned it off and proceeded to grab my stuff out and the thing started to slowly creep down. It rolled slowly forward, then it felt as if it rolled one crank rotation then stopped. Mechanically the car is sound, with no knows problems. I tried it in second and reverse with the same result. This is the first time this has happened to me, should I be worried?

It wasn't in use.

Didn't know that, I always thought second would have been sufficient.

I always leave my car parked in neutral but my drive way is pretty much level.

As do I, however, this was after the brakes got really hot and I'm trying to avoid pad deposits on the rotors.

k dono how to explain but in lamens terms 2nd gear isnt as "strong" as first try leaving it in 3rd on a hill see what happens you will roll so 2nd would be the same there for just leave it in 1st :D and ebrake always

It's probably related to the gear ratios (reverse torque multiplier?). 1st is usually shorter than reverse in most cars/transmissions, Preludes included.

What's amazing to me is that the starter is strong enough to pull the car in 3rd + gear with the ebrake engaged all the way.

use your e brake if it's a slope

any parked car will roll slightly until the gears lock if you don't use the e-brake, this includes automatic cars when it's in P.

well, if your battery is relatively dead and don't have enough cranking amps and are without jumper cables.... hah... it helps. It can't be much worse than these foo's doing burn outs

i don't get ppl who do burnouts.. i hear ppl who drag say they do it to heat up the tires but you can just drive around for a few mins to heat them up. a waste of good tires. well nothings funnier than watching ppl tryna burnout w/ open diff.

erm if you do a burn out it makes the rubber real hot basically like rubber cement makes for a better launch dirivng around for a while isnt gonna do it, its not the same thing

hey next time its your turn in line at the drag strip ask the guys to wait so you can drive around for a bit to warm up them tires

you guys sure that this wouldnt be due to poor compression in his motor? think about it. idk, my car will sit on an incline just fine in any gear. h22a m2b4. idk. maybe the lsd makes a difference. ???

he said his car rolled a little and then stopped

it has nothing to do with the engine, only the transmission.

It rolled approx a foot before I it came to a smooth stop. Also, it felt as if the car wanted to roll forward when I initially took my foot off of the brake (left in gear no e-brake) so I made some forward motions and thats when it rolled forward, then stopped. I'm unsure of how far it would/wouldn't roll if left with the e-brake disengaged.
