so I just got my tranny back from the Transmission shop today. I put on the Fidanza 8lb. Flywheel and the Exedy stage 2 ceramic clutch. while the tranny was at the the shop I had him install the Phantom grip LSD in my differential. the guy I had install it is very well experienced and i trust that he did it right.
Anyway here is the problem, I just finished putting the tranny in and it wont shift into 5th or reverse. but it will shift from 1st to 4th with ease. I did not breake the clutch fluid lines loose i just put it back on.
do I need to bleed the clutch? also how much tranny fluid is the tranny supposed to hold. mine only held 2qts. before it started running out of the hole.
PLEASE HELP ME!!! I need to be driving this car by in the morning.

Check to make sure your slave cylinder is fully opening up. Check your shift cables and make sure that they are not binded or caught anywhere, have some one try to shift the car into reverse or 5th and you look to see if the cables are moving like they should, try to get it in gear with your hand. And the tranny holds about 2 quarts.
Just because your mechanic is experienced doesnt mean he will never make a mistake, he could have screwed up. Take it back to him and tell him your problem.

hey man just so you know i did read all of those posts already and none them even came close to fixing my problem. my transmission was working fine before i had the LSD installed it was not a problem that i had before like the guys in the threads that you listed and if you going to be a jerk about it then don't post at all i think i could bet by just fine without your 2 cents. thanks for nothin.
thoses link seem to be a different prob.
since the tranny was just torn apart, i would suspect that it wasn't put back together properly. either make sure its working before you start the car.
btw its always a good idea to shift it through all the gears on the workbench and make sure the mainshaft turns in all gears BEFORE it is installed.

why would the phantom grip cause it not to shift properly? i mean it goes into 1st -4th so easy. all is deal with the differential, right? maybe me mechanic put something together wrong that has to do with the 5th and reverse.
hell I dont know.....
hell I dont know.....
phantom grip is junk but most likely not affecting your problem.
my guess is that the reverse gear is on upside down, i've done that a time or two.

I thought that the Phantom would be OK since I am not going full Race and this will be my everyday driver, also my friend is running the same one in his 11sec GSR and he says he loves it. I thinks the phantom is just another one of those products that gets mixed reviews. The main thing I liked was the price $150 vs. $850. I can buy the PG install it replace my tranny if there is a major problem cheaper than just to have a quaife sitting in the box.
as far as my problem goes, I guess that would make a lot of sense.
thanks again for your input. if there is anything else you can think of please let me know.

If you take it out working, send it to a shop, and get it back not working, what the hell do you think the problem is?
Sorry for the french but come on here....
Those phantom grips lsds are crap altogether, it wasn't worth the money it took to put it in.....they don't grip like a real lsd, go put one wheel on pavement and one in mud or on ice and nail the gas...see what happens....
