Default i can get an ls engine for $300....

it has roughly 200,000 miles though. But for $300, if I change all the gaskets and all the other stuff.... put new bearings and rods and pistons on it, and then went to a b16 head.... would it be worth it? I mean, its got 200,000 miles. I will rebuild it slowly for ls/vtec but I want to know that its even worth bothering. It doesnt have a tranny, or a wiring harness or any of that. But could it be a decent start to an insane all motor build? I would go to about 12:1 compression and build the valvetrain to go up to 9000 RPM, should I also look for a new crank while its all apart? Or should I go with the LS crank and some other rods and pistons (like ITR or something). Any input would be appreciated.

you're building it...so..you'd be replacing the parts....dont see why not.

by build though what do you mean exactly?

either way good luck man.

not sure whether there are any other parts that have normal wear and tear that I need to be aware of. I mean, Im going to probably buy it, because it is only $300 and Ive got that much in my mini-me swap.... but I just want to know that its going to hold up to what Im going to do. Also, since Ive got a few peoples attention.... which tranny and ecu should I run? I dont want to deal with the GSR butterfly stuff, so Im going with a B16 head and they are more available anyway. Should I go with a skunk2 valvetrain? Or should I go with OEM stuff and not quite reach my 9000 RPM goal?

by build I mean get the block machined and cleaned. New rods and pistons and rings. All new gaskets and o-rings and all that stuff. Maybe a new crank if that may be a problem. Then build a new valvetrain with a B16 head.

lol.... but I want a good start for a build, and trust me, I have thought of that myself. I could probably put it on ebay and let it go for $600

if your doing all that...by all means i cant see why it wont hold up...if it fails..it probably be the person who put the motor together..

Thanks for your advice. Its going to take a while for me to build it up, but a little research beforehand helps. Which tranny should I use? B16 or B18c? I dont have the money for an ITR though. Also which ECU should I run? Should I get a chipped P28 so I dont have to worry about all the OBD2 stuff? Or should I go with something else? The block is a 94 and I will get atleast an OBD1 head, but I would like to run an ITR ECU. Does that ECU require a knock sensor? and if it does, is there anywhere I can put one on a 94 ls block?
