Default LS Rods/Crank in B18C5??

Forgive me if this info is somewhere already, I searched and could seem to find anything.

I'm building my brothers motor (turbodcx) which is a B18C5 with 84mm Darton sleeves. I have RS machine 11.5:1 pistons and I'm debating using an LS crank in this motor, so if I do will I need LS rods or can I use the GSR/ITR rod? Will my pistons work with LS rods?

Kinda thinking like an LS/VTEC but using the B18C block? Is the LS crank just as strong?

Let me know your thoughts...

You'll be adding more stroke so technically it will be a 2 liter. I believe your compression will be closer to twelve depending on how much the head and block have been milled. Yes, use LS rods with those pistons. you should be ok. I went the other way and used an ITR crank in a B20 block and used ITR/GSR rods.

Thanks manny...

Can I ask one more question?... anyone know how to identify Honda cranks? How do I tell an LS from a ITR etc?

Need the slightly shorter ls rod, unless you want to reduce the combustion chamber size thereby increasing cr. Or you could have deck extended a couple mm's. The cranks on my b18 say p72 on them, I assume they put these on all there motors.

The crank must match the rods.

Cool, so LS crank and LS rods (which I already have) should work just fine and hopefully make a good base motor for the GT-45R down the road....

IIRC, my ITR crank has an "R" on one of the counterweights.

LS rods are not good for high rev'ing boosted applications. Go forged, if you plan to boost.

I would not push more than 500-525 whp. The stock piston has shown evidence of ovalizing the pin hole.

You plan on boosting with 11.5+ CR?

I've seen plenty JDM GSR with 10.5 CR and even a stock ITR at 11:1 CR boosted, but boosting 11.5 CR will probably require tuner to pull timing to prevent det. and knock.

Yep, but high comp, CAREFUL tuning and low boost = crazy HP and TQ. Its all in the tuning...

With all the correct bolt-ons yes you will make great power at low boost with a very good tuner doing it for you I would run E85 on a setup like that.

Planning on detuning it for memorial cruises (it was my little bros car and he never got to finish it before passing in a car accident) Then for serious track playing it will be on

Yeah, tuning is key. Good luck with the build, sorry to hear of your brother's passing.

You might also need to plug off the B18C's oil squirters, or bend them out of the way if using 89mm crank.

So what numbers and amount of boost are you looking for?

Good point on the squirters, never thought about that.

I really don't have a power goal yet being this is truly my first Honda build, I'm a Ford guy But I'm mainly building the car in rememberance of my brother Brian, it was his car and he was shooting for 900whp with the build but unfortunately when he was in the hospital theives stole many of the parts from his garage so I'm gathering up everything piece by piece to finish the car.

just to note, gt45r is wayyy too much turbo for cast pistons. i would go forged 9:1-10:1 if you plan on boosting.
