I am rebuilding a stock motor from a 3.0 to a 3.5. I had the car tuned for 3.0 with a turbo. After the rebuild how do I set the A/F with the extra displacement w/o tearing up the engine during the break in period to accomadate the extra displacement?

I have heard that during break in you shouldn't redline the engine. So what is the best way to keep my A/F mixture from getting lean?

get a basemap to get u to a tuner, then get it tuned by a proffesional

 

Do you think I will be ok to get it tuned on the dyno before the engine is broken in?

 

after the car has been run for the first time, change the oil, and throw it on the dyno

 

Cool, I have read that when breaking in a motor you shouldn't redline it untill it is broken in. therefore not able to dyno it a couple of times to set the A/F I needed to ask the experts here first to make sure. So thanks.

there are so many theories on how you are supposed to break in a motor, but I don't think any of them are wrong. As long as the rings seat and it doesn't burn oil, you'll be alright.

 

well your dyno guy will be doing a few hours of tuning part throttle, and wot pulls slowly moving to redline. theres no reason u cant dyno it now.

Yea its a 03 honda accord V6. I was thinking about DRT racing but haven't really heard anything good about any of them working with the emanage. they will all say that they can tune it really good though ya know. Thanks again.

yea i would go to DRT, i would not trust anyone else.

edit: thats how im gonna do mines. tow to tuner then tune/break in.

 

I would break it in on a dyno too seems reasonable to do so. So you dont wash the cylinders with fuel

 

I called DRT they told me that I should dissconnect one of my intercooler pipes so that I never hit boost then after 300 miles I can take it to them to do the dyno tune?

What do you guys think?

 

going to over rev the turbo if you do that and get on the gas.....

 

i broke in my last motor build by pushing it...

alot of people will tell you to break it in like you would drive it normally...

this time around i plan on gettin the A/F good with my wideband and taking it to my tuner without boost

I would look into someone else then if they are telling you that

You do NOT want to drive the car for any amount of time with a charge pipe disconnected because you run the risk of messing the turbo up by over spinning the turbo

Every motor I have built gets started to check for leaks, towed to the Dyno, put on the dyno and tune it... no break in and have never had any problems.
