How many of you have broken-in your newly built engine on the DYNO???
Just like the topic says. My car needs tuning to get it running. I would just hate to pay for part throttle tuning. Then take a week or two to break it in. Then go back for more tunning...
What do you guys think???

Isn't the dyno the best place to break in a new engine? I thought revving the engine to the redline and letting it decelerate without pushing the clutch in provides the optimum ring seal.
There's an article about it somewhere around here.
I'll see if I can find it.

Have you considered breaking it in all motor? Thats how ive done it in the past. It seems you always run into problems with a fresh motor and turbo combination. Breaking the engine in all motor seemed to work very well for me.

I was going to dyno break in my new built motor but I decided againsed it. I ran a stock ecu and stock injectors (no turbo!) and broke that bitch on the street

Re: How many of you have broken-in your newly built engine on the DYNO??? (legendboy)
the last two 'new rebuilds' that i have tuned, i have showed up at the shop, when the car was done, we heat cycled it once while i worked on getting the car to idle properly. Then instantly when out for street tuning for part trottle and WOT boost pulls on pump gas.
neither engine burned a drop of oil, although that could be due to the ERL sleeves as well.

They did it on my car, but the tune is horrible. I still need a retune, and possibly a street tune. I guess it's better than breaking in your engine on a base map.

I just ended up breaking mine in on the dyno. Ran into a an issue, but I should have it back on the dyno by the end of the week, (knocking on wood) and ready for CMI!
3 pulls on the Thursday.
445
441
436 all on 15 psi pump gas.
I matched what I did on my b16 at 22 psi and race gas. LOL!

i had less than 3 miles on it before it went to dyno. Just drove it around the block to warm it up and checked for leaks etc. then put it on the trailer

We had 23 miles on our motor when we were making 600whp pulls on the dyno. After the dyno the compression was 190 across the board

Re: How many of you have broken-in your newly built engine on the DYNO??? (skunkwhat)
there us no need to break a motor in all u need to do is seat the rings , i saw someone put a link to earls post about this topic up a little bit in this thread...u take more of a chance of screwing ur motor up with these goofball methods of breaking in.. even with a stock ecu and injectors is not gonna be the best choice for a built motor......
