what is the normal compression rate for an ls/vtec?
as long as all of your cylinders are the same give or take 5 then you should be fine
but on a b series its about 200

why i ask b/c i did a compression test and trying to figure out a situation, the psi rate was low. sorry i didnt understand when you said "give or take 5 then you should be fine"

it will vary because the cylinder head ur using may make it more or less. if ur using a GSR head, it may be higher because the combustion chambers are smaller...............wats ur setup??
some say normal compression rate @ 160. although ls/vtec are high compressed. my set-up is b16a2 head with b18b block everything is stock internals! just asking what the normal ls/vtec is compressed at! mine was check at 180psi in each cylinder, would that be normal in some cases, like i said stock!

yeah thats pretty good. stock LS is like 180-210 but 180 is good

generally speaking 180 is fine unless your running 10:1 + compression. What you should really be concerned about is are alll of the cylinders even.
if you have 180-175-182-180 it's fine
if you have 200-195-205-200 it's fine
if it's 200-150-205-210 you have a problem
the temp of your engine will vary the compression numbers as well as how many times your turning the engine over. having any oil residue in the cyl. also affects it. This is why a leak down test is more accurate.
generally speaking with an OEM head gasket and b16 head it should be @ 9:8.1 if I remember correctly.
