Hey all ive got a completely stock 97 CX
problem is going down the road im getting a humming noise from what it seems to be the rear driver side it happens whenever moving only noticable once you hit about 35 and gets louder and more prununciated the faster you go
the sound is basically like if you hear a truck go down a road really quickly you here the tires going down the road but it only started a few days ago i cant really explain anything and havent done anything to really cause this all i can tell you is about two days ago i was going down a backroad and hit a deep pothole but with the oppisite side any help would be apprieciated thanks

 

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing

Agreed, just jack the car up and try moving the wheel front/back and up/down. If there's play there especially by moving it by hand, def. a bad wheel bearing. The other way you can check is to jack it about 2-3 inches off the ground (the suspected wheel only) and use a fairly long prybar/jackhandle/pipe whatever. Put it under the wheel and push down on the prybar, again if there's play, bad bearing.

 

Rotate the tires first and se if it still exists. Then check the bearing.

Trust me.

 

Could be a wheel bearing, or tire.


Or you could teach your car the words.

i say its a wheel bearing i have 2 bad ones in the rear it dosent have play but you can hear it when you lift it up and spin the wheel

 

Well ill prob check it on Friday and let you guys know whats happening and if the wheel bearing still exists...
Another thing that might be more informative to you all. I noticed the hum becomes a loud obnoxious whistle kind of sound once i hit about 80 mph. I also noticed in town going round turns that if i make a left hand turn the hum/whistle whatever you please diminishes almost next to nothing than when I exit the turn it returns hope this helps at all but thanks ill keep all of you posted later on this week

 

If you hit the wheel when it is in the air and it starts to "rattle" kind of, then it 100% bearing. Possibly tires also, we had customers in the shop that complain about noise from messed up tires thinking it is from the drivetrain parts.
