I just bought a set of coilovers off ebay for like 45 dollars. I got them in today they look really nice and have very stiff springs. Im just wondering how I install them, they are supposed to slide over the stock shocks, but im worried about the stock springs flying off the strut in my face, i dont have a spring compressor, so would you suggest i just have them professionally installed or is it something i can do myself? thanks
if you have some straps you can strap the springs real tight before you remove it, but i would suggest just going to your nearest parts store and renting some spring compressors
autozone get the compresor springs and its every easy i really dont remember the name but they will help u out and its in rent so ull get ur money back
IF they are true coilovers (which i highly doubt, considering the pricetag), you dont even need to take the spring off the strut assembly. you just take the entire assembly out as one piece, and throw the coilovers in
if they're those sh*tty coilover SLEEVESS... then you need to rent the spring compressor from autozone!

So you are calling Ground Controls shitty? Nice.
Next you are going to tell me that teins are the bestest!?!?

btw, I would sell those springs, and get something different.
It looks like you have a ~7", 250lb spring and a 8" 330lb spring.
I assume they want you to put the 330 up front and the 250 in back, but that won't handle too good. You want something more like a 2 sets of 7" springs in the 350-500lb neighborhood. Preferably putting the stiffer spring in the rear.
I'm running 400f/450r right now, but wish I had more in the rear.

Posting the picture afterwards has nothing to do with what you said. GC's are the same design that you call shitty. They are a sleeve that fits over a shock body.
<-- tired of people talking about "real" and "fake" coilovers.

wow.. thats a great deal!!! 45 on ground control coilovers!!!! i spent 130 on used skunk2 coilovers! When my buddy and i did my coilovers we just used an impact on the top bolt of the strut and aimed it against a cement wall.. kinda dangerous but it works! lol... i recommend not using the stock shocks, you will be bouncing EVERYWHERE!!!!!

aim it at a concrete wall huh..hmm i do have some annoying neighborhood cats. I think im going to be renting a spring compressor cause a few hundred lbs of potential energy waiting to rip my head off is not my idea of a good time. thanks for the comments, im gonna keep the coils on stock shocks until I have recuperated from buying all this stuff. (Actually until my lady decides Im recuperated
) Im just gonna grab some KYG gassers.

aim it at some boxes or something soft, and do it with a cover around so it doesn't fly up and you shoot your eye out ralphy. it's kinda scary at first, but when you've done it enough it's kinda funny.. it's loud too lol

Yea i know, i havent gotten a digital cam yet so i just used the pic off ebay(all the pics are off ebay), its the same part, dude was selling them in preparation for a move so he just unloaded them in a BIN auction. And i was lucky enough to be there at the right time.
So anyways about the install, should I just rent a spring compressor or have them installed professionally?

I say get the spring compressor and DIY. I followed the instructions in the Helm and got it done in a few hours with the help of some friends. You will also need a ball-joint tool (~10$ from Harbor Freight) for the rear as you will have to disconnect the upper ball joint.
