ok. I have a 95 accord w/f22b non vtec. I got the car and had a slight whine in the p.s. pump. I bled the system and still whined. replaced the pump, re-bled it, still whined. so today, I put a new pressure line on since I noticed some moron tried to weld it.
well it stopped whining for about 30 sec, then filled it back up w/fluid and bled system. still whines. as soon as u start up the car, the fluid in the reservoir immediately starts foaming. leading me to belive maybe a clogged hose on the return side?? possibly a clogged or dented cooler?
Please someone has had this problem.. anymore info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

If the return side is slightly clogged maybe you can bypass the existing return hose. Each car is different so if you are lucky you will just have a rubber hose with a hose clamp securing the hose to the return fitting at the rack and at the reservior. Pull the hose ends off of the fittings and run a temporary hose from the rack to the reservior and see if the whine goes away, if not then you are probably looking at another rack, did you put in a new pump or used.
Maybe the pump would whine due to the airiated fluid but I would tend to believe that it is either a belt that is too tight or just another bad pump (especially if it is used).

yes I put a new pump on not used. I thought maybe the fluid was toast, but I put brand new genuine honda fluid in and still whines.
I dont know I am exactly clear on what you mean.. u want me to pull the whole return line off the rack or just the part by the fenderwell that goes to the cooler??
I understand what you mean by pull off the rubber hose but what if the metal line(post rubber hose) is clogged? replace that.. why would the rack be bad?? i mean, it would be leaking, no?? this is one topic I have never had problems with.
too tight of a belt would cause the whine?? I did not know that, it should have about a 1/2" of slack right?? that might be the problem, but I doubt...

Sorry, I do not know if the cooler is in the pressure side or the return side, yes, bypass the entire return hose if you can, if not, sorry. YES racks do go bad and they need rebuilt every now and then, some or all states no longer allow independent shops to rebuild anymore, you have to be a certified rebuilder so this would mean that it needs to get replaced. But I think you have more troubleshooting to do.

well I do know they go bad. I have just never had a problem this severe b4. it is cheaper to buy reman than new, and the cooler is on the return for the reason it could not withstand the pressure. I thus much, this was more of a has anyone had this problem more than a truobleshooting thing, i have checked all but the cooler and all seems fine. the law states for most states it is required to have a full alignment and p.s. service performed after the install. anyways, thanks for the help man. if you come across anything else I would like to hear the info.

The return side of any hydraulic system is very low pressure or essentially no pressure or the fluid would squirt ot of the reservior with the cap off.
Check/clean the reservoir itself. Mine has a fine mesh screen down in the reservoir, submerged under the normal fluid level. If that's plugged up, it's starving the suction side of the pump.
