Default Power Steering Removal. WTF is this line?

I am about to go turbo (tomorrow, hopefully) and I just recently realized that the PS HAS to go.

I've read over a few FAQs and have a pretty good understanding as to what I've got to do.

My question is what is this hose for?

The hose that comes from behind the block and has the copper fitting that goes into the top of the PS pump.

The hose connected to parts number 20, 4, 24, 17, & 19.

Where do I put it? Tap it into the resivoir?

My plan is to pull out the system, and instead of just looping the rack itself, loop it into the resivoir so the rack can let out fluid/accept fluid as it pleases to help it stay lubricated.

Thanks HT,
Nick

I'm not sure if its a PS fluid line or a coolant line, that's why I'm trying to figure it out.

Coolant line would be kickass, but if not, oh well.

Might just have to find out tomorrow when I pull it off and see what color the fluid coming out is.

Its been mentioned in a few threads before, but you shouldn't need to loop the rack. The rack is internally lubricated. You can cap off the ports that would have been connected to the loop hose so that debris doesn't get in there though.

It's definitely feed or return line like mentioned above. That top hose is connected to the top of the pump I believe...

dont loop it, just cap the rack and remove all lines and pump and resivoir. but i will tell you from experience that power steering racks and manuel racks are geared different. so in actuality a power steering rack with no power steering is harder to turn than a manuel rack
so you might want to look into just getting a manuel rack and doing it right. i loved my manuel rack, the only time i hated it was in a parking lot, but a manuel rack feels alot firmer at higher speeds

I will look into getting a manual rack. I actually wasn't planning on pulling the PS until just last weekend when I realized how little room there really was inside that part of the engine bay.

So it is a PS fluid feed?

He's right.

I took my PS off, and looped it at the rack with the stock hose, I just cut the return/sending hose and looped it, and it's fine.
yea it's hard sometimes, but I don't mind it at all.
Anyone that complains about it is just being a girl.

So what exactly am I supposed to do with that pressure hose? Loop it into whatever is left over?

You can just remove it and cap the fitting. And you won't need a manual rack.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Louie_EM1 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

It isn't that hard. I never have trouble even when I am not moving.

Thanks a lot guys. Leaving tomorrow morning to start the turbo install. I'm more worried about the damned power steering than I am the turbo install and street tuning.

Hopefully I'll be back on in a few days.
