Default My $2.45 DIY intake...

I'm not going to shell out big money for an intake since my 1994 GS-R has 292,000 miles on it (that's not a typo) and it has the original engine and tranny. The car runs like a champ, but I wanted a project for a Saturday afternoon. So I took apart the stock intake and set out to make some improvements. After all was said and done, I'm not sure if I made any real gains, but I had fun in the process. Here's what I ended up with:

With the passenger fender removed, I cut off all the elaborate resonator chambers and ended up with the intake tubing drawing cold air from behind the turn signal:

K&N stock replacement filter already on the car:

Another resonator found on the intake tube from the filter to the throttle body:

A $2.45 rubber plug I found in the hardware section of Home Depot. It is the perfect diameter and depth to plug the hole left after removing the resonator:

Looking down the intake tubing found underneath the K&N filter:

Looking down the intake tubing found underneath the K&N filter when I shined a light at the end of the intake tubing in the fender:

I believe he's referring to the open hole. With it open like that your more prone to have stuff from the wheels, i.e. small bits of gravel, or dirt, fly in there and actually have the intake be less effective in the long run.

This is what I was initially thinking, then I noticed the tube was faced inward - although I'm sure it's still possible to get little rocks/dirt/gravel/etc.

The real point to an intake it the hard pipe that helps air flow better to the t-body. This really is doing nothing.
