Default 2000 prelude sh timing belt service help

Okay so I am going to be replacing a timing belt, blance belt, and h20 pump for a friend. I haven't ever done one on a prelude and was wondering if there is anything I need to watch out for, special tools that I need. Do i need a three jaw puller or three bolt puller for the crank pulley? Any special lock down tools for the cams?

You need the special tool to be able to hold the crank pully still while you loosen the bolt. Do a search on crank pully and read all the horror stories of trying to get that biatch off. The main things are making sure you have the cams and crank at TDC before you put on the belt, if not youll have problems.

What do you need to hold the tensioner depresed, can't you just use a small punch or pick?

thanks for your help guys. I got it back together and it runs great, however the owner of the car says it seems to vibrate a little more then it did before. I am guessing that I the balance belt might be missaligned. If your off a tooth on the balance belt would that make the car shake a bit at idle?

Dont even bother re-using the tensioner, either buy a new one which is like $40 bucks or go manual conversion. The auto tensioners fail enough as they are let alone re-compressing the piston in it and messing with it.

well, if the balance shafts are off, they won't cancel the engine's vibration and may cause their own vibrations.

Did you make sure you have them aligned right before putting it back together? I would take the belt off and ask the owner if it is better. If he can live w/ it, free mod for power!

are you sure the engine mount is tight? how about the crank pulley? if so its prob that the balance belt is off...sometimes theres markings on them and its confusing to get it right (ex: the pulley below the water pump had a marker from a previous owner that didnt line up with the factory marking)
