Default Tachometer problem, not working properly...

Last night when driving home my tachometer stopped working. Here are the symptoms:

1. At low rpms (such as idle) the tach is dead, it rests on the peg.
2. When climbing to higher rpms the tach will try and catchup with where it "should" be, and in fact goes beyond the rpm that it should.

So far i am leaning towards a faulty ignitor. Does this sound correct? I doubt that the entire unit has gone bad as it has low milage (63k). Lets hear your input!

Thanks in advance...

I have had similar problems with my tach, only mine bounces when at idle. I was told to replace the ignitor. But try to find one before buying one because they are quite expensive.

do you have a cable driven vss or electronic vss? If cable the cable could have came a little loose at the vss.

I'm leaning towards the ignitor as well. Try and switch in another one, otherise you're better off getting a new dist rather than a new ignitor (they're around $100-$130).

STREETWERKZ i believe has it right. the last time this happened to me it was the alternator. seems crazy but it makes sense, but also my temp gauge was acting a fool too. just a thought

i had similar problems on my crx dx (bad ignitor), i've heard that usually when one thing in your distributor is starting to go bad can be warning signs of soon to be future failures of dist. components( dont know how true it is), also i have a baisically new ignitor/ distributor for a d15b2 if your interested e-mail me at jimmychron@yahoo.com
