WTF!! Crank pulley came off the crank!!
1998 H22A4 - I was driving yesterday and heard a crazy sound, lost my belts and popped the hood.. My crank pulley is just hanging there barely on the crank. It won't slide off cause of the tight quarters, but WTF!! The car only has 100k miles on her.. Has this been a problem for 5 gens?? I've got an extended warrenty, so off to the shop it went.. I'll find out more today... Thinking about getting the timing belt and water pump replaced while they're in there. Any thoughts??
i think he meant that the block might be gone due to the crank pulley spinning off, causing the crankshaft to lock...and it just goes in order from there.....hopefully YOU DIDNT try to DRIVE IT after this happened, not even an inch further
i think the cause of this might have been somebody not applying the right amount of torque to tighten it maybe after doing a timing belt change or something of that nature

^ I agree. If the crank pully has been taken off before who ever put it back more than likely screwed up. Those things are on ther at 181ftlbs of torque. They should not come off to easily.
I had this on mine but managed to catch it before the pulley came all the way off the key on the crankshaft. It had damaged the keyway on the pulley, but I got a new keyway cut and it fitted back on ok. It will definitely be down to the bolt not being torqued down to 220Nm properly, Honda released a service bulletin in 1993 stressing how critical it is to lock the pulley with their special tool and tighten fully!
True it should be torqed very hard, but on the other hand I have used a breaker bar and just hand-torqed it and have had no problem. Supposedly it tightens itself a little every time you drive.

this also happened to my lude awhile back. my friend was driving my lude around the block and he managed to drop the clutch in 1st gear. the strain broke the key and the crank pulley was just rubbing against the splash guard. all of it was gone. pain in the ***. good luck.
Just got a call fro the dealership.. The bolt came out of the crank and the warranty company wants them to inspect it further to check for any key way and crank damage.. plus they are going to check the crank timing gear as well... Can you say free labor for a Timing Belt change?? I knew that you could
They also said that the water pump is leaking as well.. might do that one too while they're in there.
thanks for all your replies..
