anyone know what the numbers under the engine code are for? i always thought they were a vin for some reason, but noticed today that their aren't enough #'s

 

They're basically just a production #.

 

can they tell me anything? can i run a carfax off of it?

 

All they are is just the marker for what number that engine was off the production line. You can't really tell anything special from it.

I was told that the cops on the west coast keep these numbers in a data base for stolen engines and can seize your engine if it matches a number of a stolen engine. There were a couple of cars impounded a while back in Cali because they had a stolen engine...(car show)

 

Well, that I believe.... damn CA has a bunch of nutty **** going on.
