vss to speedo cable questions?
i just swapped a b16 into my crx dx. the tranny has a vss and obviously the vtech wont kick in, any one have any solutions to this problem. do i need a non vss ecu? and how do i make my cable speedo work on this aplication?
thanks for any help i can get.

what ecu do u have right now? if its obd0 then obviously running wires from the vss will go no where, hell i wouldnt even both on a obd0 converted obd1, but hey does anyone know if the cable speedo sensor will go into the hydo tranny? no reason it shouldnt.
all you need is any cable vss from either a b-series or even d-series. i used one from a 91 acura integra in my hatch with a b16 but in my b16 crx i used the one right out of the hf tranny. if you use the stock one out of your d-series and running anything bigger then 13" rims you mph will be off depending on the size of rim and tire profile.
You need to install the Speedo-cable that came with your CRX DX - you do have one, plug it into the transmission where the Electronic VSS is. (yeah, remove the Electronic VSS first)
And mycrx7 is smokin crack. Nothing he says makes sense and seems false... but i can't understand what he said well enough to know for sure.
You can use a Electronic VSS on a OBD0 computer, how do you think people put OBD1 guage clusters in their car that require a E-VSS.
also, i've always had larger than 13 inch rims, even 17s on a CRX (yeah yeah rice shudup) and there really isn't a noticeable difference in the speed reading. I'm sure there is a diff, but it's really not worth mentioning. like 100/97? lol
When you go with bigger wheels, you end up with thinner tires... making the same total circumfrence. Kids don't learn math in school anymore do they?

ok thanks that solves my having no speedo problem.
Now i need to know if there is a way to trick the computer to thinking that the vss is working so i have vtec, or do i need to get the ecu that came off a car without electronic vss?
and yes i know about rims and tires, not to worried about all that.

as far as i know the vss signal actually comes from the car's guage cluster, assuming you have the stock guage cluster in your car. that is why there is a cable that spins that runs up into your dash. then the signal is generated in the guage cluster and sent to the ecu. the signals are the same from the electronic VSS that goes on obd1 trannies and the vss that resides in your speedo and is cable driven, so you just have to decide which one to use and wire it up accordingly. if you have a stock cable guage cluster, which it sounds like you do, then it *should* work.
everything nikozai said is correct, i was just clarifying how you can use either one, but the easy choice is to use the cable one that you already have, so you dont have to do any wiring. if your speedo is showing speed but you arent getting vtec, then you may check your oil pressure and that your car is at the correct operating temp for it to kick in. or your vss cluster to ecu wiring might just be messed up.
