Default F/H Trans Question

What problems do you lude guys run into with your trannies? I heard they go out quick as hell? Im asking this because im dropping in a H22A into my EG hatch and kinda dont want to do the H2B kit, sounds super expensive.

I agree our trannies are fine. It's the slugomatic (auto) honda trannies that have seemed to be plagued with weaknesses. If your looking for a tranny with a tighter gear ratio look into the Euro-R.

one of the biggest advantages about the h2b is the idea that you already have the axles, mounts, tranny, shift linkage, slave cylinder, and intermediate shaft.

plus no cutting mounts and holes in the floor.

I have had no problems with my tranny. but mind you I am only bolt ons. I beat my car a bit. I have over 150-200k miles and no grinds.

Many people like the b series tranny because its easier to find. and you have a bigger choice of aftermarket final drives.

People exagerate. The tranny does it's job. Despite all the fuss I always make it to 3rd gear before all the B junkies I've raced.

^^try racing an h2b car and then you'll see

h2b is a lot simpler for people like this poster

just buy an h22 and the h2b kit, or the new h2d kit, and everything just bolts up....

after mounts, expensive h series trannies, shift cables and shift plates, you can almost come out even, and certainly come out faster

the only pitfall is the clearance issue, i dont know enough to say which, but i know on some cars the h2b puts the valve cover too high, and the hood has to be shimmed....

Yeah, but by the tone of his post it seems he's afraid that he may desperately need to go H2B according to the mass belief that the H tranny is completely flawed and utterly useless.

I understand that an H2B will go faster...I'm just saying the H tranny will be fine and it wont leap out of the bay and stab you death according to rumors.

I would personally go h2b but the h-tranny is nowhere near a flawed as it's made out to be. That is the b series boys trying to find something that they can point out to be bad about our beasts! haha.

Damn I guess that I have to get out of this forum more often and into the Civic and Teg forums because I have been on Honda-Tech since 2002 and I have never heard of H series trannies being weak. I know the rumors about the Nissan 5 speed popout and the GM 5 speed that cant take torque but the H series trans? Isn't Oaks running all 770ish WHP through a stock H series tranny?

Sorry guys one more thing, Look at the October issue of honda tuning, theres a guy pushing 852 horses( thats beside the point) at the end towards the article they ask the tuner whats his next plans, exact quote page 40,"He's going to race this thing, and he's talking about transmission upgrades now. I warned him about H22 transmissions, which aren't strong as B-series trannies, so we might do an H-to-B trans conversion". Someone prove this ***** wrong because now i got tangible evidence on H trans have probs.

are you running 852hp??
even so both will last just as well but with the cables you might cause alittle more wear and tear on the sync's.
