Default What vtec controller to buy?

I finally splurged and bought the wheels my DSP DC2 has been craving. 13 Inch Panasports!!!! We ran the same course today as the last event and i shaved about 2 seconds off wearing old worn v710's! Vtec controller is my next upgrade. I was looking at the buddy club one for like $50 on ebay, but it doesent look like there are numbers, just a ****. Are there any precise ones out there that dont cost a fortune? Thanks.

I have a VAFC 2... I wish I had not bought it. It's pretty but that's it. My suggestion is to go to a chipped OBD1 ECU. Tune it, set it and forget it.

I still drive the car on the street in good weather. I want something that will allow me to set it where i want. I'm thinking set it about 5K for autox, there should be plenty of oil pressure at that rpm for the lobe pins right?

Considering that the stock engagement point on the GSR is 4400rpm, at 5000rpm there would be even more oil pressure. No worries with regards to oil pressure.

My question to you would be why do you want to raise the engagement point. You're actually going to loose power between 4400-5000rpm. Believe me I've tried adjusting VTEC point on my GSR and have found the stock setting is best for a smooth powerband.

I thought the butterflies in the intake mani opened at 4500 and the lobes changeover around 6500.

Nope, you got it backwards:
4400 for VTEC
5800 for IAB (intake air bypass)

Why the heck would you want to do just that? There are so many better options these days.

Mine! I'll sell you my Feilds VTEC controller for $50. Shipped. Don't need it anymore now that I don't have vtec. PM me if you are interested.

Yeah, this is my point. I don't see how that'll benefit you all that much. Why not just save the money for the time being and put it towards something that's ACTUALLY useful, like Hondata. S100 units aren't too expensive these days.

Actually considering i had it backwards ( i thought the iab came on at 4400 and the lobes at 5700) i guess it wouldnt help much. A seasoned autoxer suggested it to me. But the car he drove with it was a civic si, maybe the lobes changeover later on those.

Dont do that. There is a reason that vtec kicks in when it does. You want to tune it to the right rpm. Sometimes kickin it in at the wrong time in the powerband you can lose power.

Plus it needs to self engage. make sure it has enough oilpressure is right and so on. If he is low on oil and hooks it up himself like that, its noooo bueno!
