Default Vtec ECU into a Non-vtec engine??

I have a b18 ls swap w/gsr tranny in my 98 ek hatch. I have a 98 GSR P72 Ecu for it too, but the rev limiter kicks in at 4800-5k rpms...i'm guessing because that's when vtec engages, or because of the knock sensor(that's not there) Was wondering if there were any kind of wiring tricks I could do to make the gsr ecu usable in my swap. I'm running the stock civic ecu on it now, and pretty sure I could get alot more power out of it with a better ecu. I have an obd2-obd1 conversion harness with an obd1 PO6 ecu w/ skunk2 chip, but it doesn't work for crap, idles horrible, dumps all kinds of gas into it, and putters the whole time if i try to drive on it. anyone please??

your trying to use a VTEC ecu on a nonVTEC motor?? do you see why you wont get that power?

exactly why i'm still using my stock non-vtec civic ecu...the chipped obd1 po6 i have doesn't work for shat, so was just wondering if there were any tricks around the early rev limiting action that the gsr ecu was causing, to see if it would make any power difference over the stock civic one. rev limiter kicks in at 6800rpms on the civic ecu, and my msd is set to 7200, but does no good, because it won't even reach it.

At most I would use a P06, the vtec ecu is not mapped for non-vtec, but a P28 would probably be your best bet if you are going to use a Vtec ECU, because it has SOHC Vtec maps, which aren't that different from non-vtec P06.

the only problem with that is, that i'm running the sohc non-vtec ecu on my dohc LS motor.....i was also wondering if that may be the reason my chipped PO6 ecu may not be working right because it's map'd for a sohc civic......that sound feasable to anyone? do i need to get a p75, because i'd really like to get the right amount of power to my motor.

the reason a vtec ecu wont work in your applications is because upon trying to activate vtec the ECU says "oh no, NO OIL PRESSURE", fuel cut, fuel cut, fuel cut.

i dunno, usually it just wont activate the ECU, that usually doesn't trigger a fuel cut, just stops VTEC from engaging..

Although it makes me wonder if his rev limiter is infact limp mode.

Baseline; Can't use that ECU w/ that car, whatever the EXACT reason I'm not positive...

when the ecu reaches the vtec crossover point it looks for oil pressure, if there is no vtec solenoid there is no signal to the ecu, therefore the ecu thinks NO OIL PRESSURE, therefore, fuel cut, limiter, whatever.
