90% done with my ls turbo swap, today im doing the valve lash and i notice that one of my intake valves in the #3 cyl is sitting lower in the head. the spring looks compressed more as well. its low enough that i cant properly adjust the lash on the rocker. heres some pics.

the last one is the best pic. neither of those cyls have the valve compressed by the cams in those pics.
also, the head was just at the machine shop getting hot tanked. im assuming all valves were removed and then replaced afterward. did the machinist use the wrong valve or something?
im lost and kinda need to get this motor running this weekend its the only free time i have

Well if so take the head back to the machine shop and ask them what your free drop was at. They should all be within .005 if not that cylinder is gonna run like crap.
Stuck valve or bent, if the head has been sitting very long I would say its stuck. Had it happen to a customers engine.

the head ran fine when i took it off my last car, and it sat packed away since. the motor turns over fine by hand, so i dont think its stuck. you can see the valve open and close again when it comes in contact with the cam lobe........
please excuse my ignorance, but whats a free drop?

Well its either stuck or bent, the valve is being pushed down right now and nothing is forcing on it.

Its the relationship between each valve seat depth. If they cut the rest of your seats say .015 more than the factory height and only cut that one seat .006 deep. Then your installed height will be off for that one particular spring. Do the rest of your springs have shims under them?

i dont know if this makes sense, but when i bolted the head on a few days ago, i didnt notice any of the valves not seated in the combustion chambers, they were all flush...
ill check for shims in the morning

Is it me or is that Missing a Rocker????? on the that pics, And were you able to take the rocker out without removing the cams???

oh no, i was very easily able to remove the rocker with the cams in, just loosen it up and it came right out. i took it out so you could see the height of the retainer compared to the other valves
the springs should all be the same. it was a complete head when it went to the shop

ok, i pulled the head off and took one of the "bad" valves out. turns out the valve isnt bent, but the stem has nasty **** almost like rust on it, as well as no lubrication. im currently taking a few other possibly nasty valves out, replacing them with good ones just in case, and cleaning the guides out and putting some lubrication in there as well.
is this from sitting inside in a plastic bag for a year? or is it from the head just being hot tanked but not having all the valves taken out when it was tanked???

^^^ thats what my stem looked like (not to that extent) but yeah i see whats going on now.
gonna finish this up right now with some much better condition valves and hopefully have the motor boosting tomorrow

If this head was hot tanked all assembled then there is a good chance the seals are junk now too.Take it all apart , clean and lube the valves ,and put it back together with new seals.

as i posted earlier, i took the rocker out so you could see how the valve was at a different height.
im going valve by valve and taking them out and cleaning/replacing them

I just had to do the same thing on a head that was sitting outside under a tarp for a year.. they had rust in the same place yours have stuff in that picture.. I just took a wire wheel to them and cleaned out the guides and replaced the stem seals.
