i think your talking about the serial number. its a long string of numbers, right below the block stamp

i think its related to production numbers or something, but dont quote me on that

 

the motor a serial number that is assigned to the vehicle it was originally in...

If the car was to be stolen and the motor was taken the motor would be reported stolen put into the system of every local and small law enforcements within the area. this way if a vehicle is pulled over and checked with that engine charges can be placed against the driver!
