I have a 1990 civic ex... ive had it for about 3 months now.. and it is starting to shoot some white smoke.. Im assuming theres oil getting into the engine or soemthing along those lines... do you have an idea on how to fix it.. new head gaskets.. or ? idk....
the car is very reliable I just dont want smoke shooting out of my tail pipe...
also do you have any idea why my car wont even redline.. redline is 6,000 I think... after 5200 it sounds like its just gonna die.... like it wont push more... thats on every gear... help someone

about how long do you think it would take to take the head off and replace the gasket.. Im a pretty busy person.. keep In mind Ive never taking the head off of a block either.. Im not a newb but ive never done it...
do you have an idea whats up with my redline by any chance

you should not be driving your car anymore. this is a very serious engine issue. you car is not going to run right with a bad head gasket anyway. whatever redline issue you have is most likely related and not a concern in comparison to basically blowing up your engine.
having done this before, as a noob myself, i really recommend you taking it to a shop. but expect to pay at least $400 to get the job done, easily more like $800 done right (new head bolts, machined head)

what the hell dude.
your head gasket is blown, it needs to be replaced.
if you are just talking about regular water vapor when its cold, then thats just normal.
whatever. :unsubscribed:

ohh alright... I was about to say..... Im gonna do it along with an oil change and coolant flush next friday.... but this is most likeyl the case of the smoke right.. is there any way to check for sure
SOHC motors are relatively simple and straight-forward to take the head off of. Get yourself a helms manual, or at least a procedure list with torque specs & steps to do the timing. The HG is $30-50 for a real honda MLS gasket (get one for a d16y8), intake gaskets are a few bones. Otherwise you can get by with resuing the headbolts (although ARP's are just $100 shipped) and the exhaust gasket (if its a stainless one).
Basicly it goes - remove exhaust manifold, intake mani if you want wreck your back, loosen timing belt tensioner, disconnect all vacuum/coolant hoses & wires to head, unbolt headbolts in proper sequence, and its off. Hell I just disassembled a d16z6 tonight in 30 mins - its really easy. To replace the HG with it in that car, it just takes time - and time is serious money when paying a mechanic.
BTW, since d-series motors can have headlift problems, it could have a blown HG, idle fine, not overheat - but leak fluid into the cylinders above idle. I drove a d15 motor 20 miles w/o coolant (gauge broke, couldn't see smoke due to night & rain), changed the $30 HG in one evening and it ran fine till sold.
