Spend a bit more money on a better mask initially. You'll be better off in the long run. I have a Miller Elite that I like a lot, There are also many many other options, Optrel, Jackson, etc.

I think welding helmets are just something you get used to. I use a cheap home depot one and i've grown to love it, when you start putting stickers on your first helmets you don't really want to get rid of them afterwards, well i don't anyways lol.

Definitely interested in seeing the progress on this project. Good luck with everything and let us know how it goes

Sweet project. I just made my first log manifold and everything turned out fine. Just take your time and do lots of fit up. Looks like you've got quite a bit of material there....looks like it's gonna be fun. Also, speaking of hoods, I've got a cheap Jackson from National Welders and it works great. It was under 30 bucks I believe. Might have been under 20. I had an auto darkening from Harbor freight and it worked alright but it was just brittle. It worked alright until I dropped it a few times. Good luck with the manifold!

Lol I am stuck on the $50 harbor frieght helmets for life each one lasts about 2-3 years and does great in the meantime (I am always melting my helmet or messing it up in one way or anyother)

Yah go skicker crazy on mine too, tial, garrett, precision stickers is all you ever see on mine lol

He also stated it's his first manifold so maybe he is leaving himself some room for error, if he messes up he has extra, better to have too much then not enough.

If you dont mine me asking about how much did the materials set you back?

That's a lot of bends!!

Have you already designed the manifold? Or are you just going to create as you go?

Dang, that IS a lot of bends. A Ramhorn only takes 13 bends total.

But there is a problem... You don't have any straight pipe. Even with the collector precut you always need some straight to fill in the space between bends.

And in the future, to save money, one 90 degree el is the same as 2 45 degree els but less than half the price. You are going to have to cut some of the bends regardless.
