Default Oil Question

I feel like a dork askingthis but I just realized what I did this weekend while changing the oil on my car. Ever since I could remember my dad always told me to use 10W30 oil on our cars. While removing the oil cap (for the 300th time) on my engine I noticed it said "Use 5W30". What is the difference and is my useing the 10W that bad?

Dosnt matter, 10w30 is just thicker... people always freak out and are LIKE OMG I PUT 10w30 in its suppose to take 5w20 or 5w30... dosnt matter..

I use 10w30 in summer cuz the engine gets hotter, and 5w30 in winter cuz its thinner and dont need that much heat protection

Jeez you live in Texas!!! 10W30 is fine!!! Most car dealers use 10w30 unless you specify otherwise!

5w-30 and 10w-30 are usually interchangable. if you look in your owners manual it may even say you can use 10w-30. but with the newer engines coming out tolerances are much tighter and using the recomend viscosity is alot more important.
