Auto? if its auto you cant adjust it

But manual theres an adjustment type thing on the end of the clutch cable where it connect to the trans, you just adjust it until theres little or no play in the pedal

Whatever you call the cable that runs from the throttle to the trans...i kept loosening it trying to fix a convertor lock up problem i was having and now that its fixed i want to adjust this cable correctly. At 1/8 throttle on the highway the tranny thinks the throttle is closed and unlocks the convertor. If i give it a little more gas it locks right up and i know i have this cable way too loose...thanks

I bet the Helm book has a procedure, but I don't know it. Maybe standback thought you were talking about the shift cable?

put a long screwdriver on the pressure lever at the front of the trans; just as you open the throttle and the RPM starts to rise the pressure lever should move up slightly.
Driving test; get rolling along a flat level road at 25 mph light throttle, then floor the gas pedal, the trans should downshift to first gear.
Repeat the drive at 28 mph, floor the gas pedal, and the trans should drop to 2nd gear.
