A friend of mine has a 92 EG with a GSR + Boost. Tuned with Neptune. Anyway, his car started smoking very bad and pushing oil into the turbo. Did a compression test and 1-3 were 190 and cylinder 4 was completely dead, 0 compression and it had alot of oil in the cylinder and on top of the piston. I checked to see if the piston still moves up and down in the cylinder and it does. Valve train looks like it should. Any ideas what this could be before I rip the head off?

the spark plug was completely covered in oil. I couldn't really see the cylinder walls all that great. If it were rings I wouldn't think it would just go to 0 compression, it would drop the compression serverly though but not make it where there isn't any at all right?
something is going on down there.where could all this oil and pressure be going?with liquid in the cylinder if your bottom end is sealing you would see more compression, not any at all.cracked cylinder?either which way the motor is going to have to come apart.

anyway I can check for a cracked cylinder before I accually take this motor apart? I want to try everything I can to rule what this is before I have to pull it apart.

just take off the head and your problems will most likely present themselves

chances are you may have blown a ring.. how long has it been boosted? if this is the case you may have to hone the cyl wall out and replace the piston (if scarred) and a new set of rings.. my gsr is smoking at high rpms so im thinking its the valve seal.. if not.. i will have to find what cyl its comming from and do the same..
good luck..

This cylinder has 0 compression. I thought it was the rings also, it just mind boggles me that it would have 0 compression. What are the chances that both the compression rings are blown?

Yea, when you pull them out, your going to watch pieces of them (ringlands) fall off in pieces.
Pistons/rings are toast. Hopefully you haven't scarred the cylinder walls too bad so the block is reusable.
