Weird starting problem in d16a6 crx
I go to start the car and it'll just make a "snap/blowing fuse" noise and shut off all the power to everything in the car and won't allow me to try starting it again. If i wait like 10 minutes I can start it again. Fuses are fine, and power comes back on after awhile. I haven't done anything since the last time it would start. What's the deal?
I have tried jumpstarting it. charging battery, and its a brand new battery.
thanks..

Sounds like loose power connections, I've had this happen just as you explained before. I would check he post on the battery if you just put a new battery in it. Make sure the cables are clamped to the posts and that no corrosion is inside the ring before you bolt it down to the battery. Also check that the wire coming off the negitive terminal on the battery is grounded well as well as the gounding cable that goes from the valve cover on the motor to the chassis. Use sandpaper or a wire brush to clean any dirty connections.
In my car, to make sure that I had a very good ground, I went as far as getting cheap lawnmower battery cables with precrimped eyes on the ends and added an extra one going from the negitive battery post to the bolt that holds the headlight in. I also put another battery cable from the engine to the chassis. Make sure the cables you select are at least the same wire gauge as your battery cable from the factory or you could have a fire though.
Got my cables $5 at Walmart
Can provide a picture as an aid if needed.

where is the sound coming from? could be a main relay....if the sound is coming from under the dash on the drivers side by the fuse panel, pull out the main relay and pop it open and see if all the solder joints are good
I do not think the main relay will kill your accessory power and everything but it is very common to have cold solder joints in them.
I'm also not saying the relay couldn't be to blame, usually a relay problem will leave your engine cranking over when starting but the fuel pump will not turn on causing a no-start situation.
Here is a link with an inspection / repair procedure if you find a bad main relay though.

I'm 99% sure that the snapping you are hearing is an electrical arc on a power cable under your hood that is not making good connection.

it wasn't the relay, it was the ground to the valve cover! I have a heavy gauge wire on it, but i tigtened it, cleaned it, etc. and it started fine. It's always something simple!
thanks

good you got it fixed...but might wanna think about adding a few grounds to your motor if the valve cover ground caused your car not to start, cuz if thats the case, thats probably your only engine ground and can cause stress on your electrical sensors and components.... just my .02
Check to see if that ground wire is getting warm. I had a similar problem- I had forgotten to attach the ground on the thermostat housing- and the ground wire off the valve cover got warm enough to melt slightly.
Just something to double-check...
