My speedometer isn't working and I have already replaced the speed sensor in the tranny. will the cluster not working cause the check engine light to come on? a guy at the shop said it was the speedometer head.

 

Go pull the check engine code and let us know what it is,

yeah ill have to go out and check it later but has something to do with it. the check engine light only comes on when I accelerate hard. its not on when I start the car and it will stay off if I keep the rpms low while driving. the speedo never works though the rest of the gauge works fine.

 

I just checked the codes and it is giving me 17 vss

 

Are you sure that the new one you put in was in working order? It also maybe be your ECU, the speed signal goes from the sensor to the ECU then to the cluster. I used to throw VSS codes all the time(speedo would still read though), then switched ECUs and never had the problem again.

 

it was a used one that he had at the shop and they used the gear from mine. my speedo doesn't ever work.

 

ha ha ha mine did that too, i changed the speed sensor and its a ok now except it cost me $118. but since i just totaled my civic ill sell you mine for $55 shipped.

 

well the speed sensor shouldn't be the problem since I just had it replaced Ill keep you in mind though

its your speed sensor. same thing happened to me. when the chekc engine light came on vtec would not work. so get a new speed sensor. that will do it.

mine was a "new" one as well and when i would get hard on the gas the light would come on because the sensor was cracked. for a while it the engine light would go on and off. finally it went completely out and i replaced my speed sensor and got my speedometor back. might wanna take it off and look at it. might be a fucked up one.

yeah that sounds exactly like what I have going on now. If I get on it hard the cel comes on. Im gonna see if I can get some money back for that sensor.

 

alright I have a gsr tranny in my 94 I think I need a new vss for the 94 gsr or can I get one for the civic.
