Default Check engine light..

So i was driving about 80 on the freeway changed lanes and kinda ran/went over a big piece of tire from say the big diesel trucks. it went all underneath the car and seconds after the check engine light came on. what could have been the cause of the light to come on guys? any help is appreciated..

Did it go under the center of the car? Because it might have disconnected a wire or two from the oxygen sensor after the cat...Never know.

thats exactly what i thought but the 02 sensor is on the down pipe its not realy far below enough. i just recently came to realize the next morning my car would not start. lights work gauges work but no click nor pull from the starter..could it be the starter or starter cables would have gotten damaged? and if so would that set off the check engine light?

It is possible that running over the tire has NOTHING to do with the check-engine light.

It could be a coincidence that you ran over something right before your check-light turned on.

Maybe it was going to turn even if you didn't run over something.
