Default VTEC in my 99 LX

When the Vtec kicks in on a 99 LX, can you hear it or is it very slight? Is it like when vtec kicks in on a b series engine? I'm not sure if my vtec is working, it threw a code for vtec malfunction, but the CEL turned itself out. Thanks in advance.

Ooh yes; I had the same problem, but I fixed it

1st check your oil level - if it's ok

now check your VTEC solenoid - even it's good - need some clean up

if your VTEC not working, you'll know that - its feels s*it when you drive

it is behind the valve cover, order to clean you have to remove it

also check the VTEC solenoid with a multimeter

you must have your Technical manual handy

Also even when you do hit VTEC in the F23 you probably won't notice.

ok just making sure. I finally got my haynes manual in today, i'll be pulling the solenoid to make sure its not clogged. How come the VTEC is different on the B-series motors? When it hits on those, it sounds like all hell is breaking loose.

There are different types of VTEC systems, and then you have some motors that are DOHC and some that are SOHC. B-series VTEC systems were designed with performance in mind, while Accord F-series VTEC systems were designed with economy/efficiency in mind, with a little power mixed in. B-series VTEC is a part of both the intake and exhaust cams, while Accord F-series VTEC is only a part of the intake cam. B-series VTEC causes more valve lift and duration change than Accord F-series VTEC.

If you want to make it more complicated, when can start talking about i-VTEC and VTEC-e...

Please, not another DOHC VTEC vs SOHC VTEC vs DOHC i-VTEC vs SOHC i-VTEC vs VTEC-e vs VVT-i vs iForce vs Hemi vs Zetec vs VANOS vs VVT vs . . .

SOHC Vtec still sounds pretty ballistic to me, especially for a 4 banger it gets loud as hell.
