Only disadvantage would be the smell and chance of a huge fine for emissions if you get caught.

Test pipe is actually a very good mod, and can free up some power.

Make sure you get a pipe with the o2 bung in it this way you can rig a mechanical o2 sym so you wont throw a CEL.

emissions are actually easier to pass now then before. all they do now is plug into the OBD2 and see if you're throwing a CEL or not... no codes and you're good to go....

My T1R Test pipe still smells. Still Intoxicating, and I STILL love it.

its the same thing with a cat back system though. It smells untill its broken in. The metal has to become used to the heat. My exhaust smells once in a while, but only after I shut the car off and its realitively cold out.

While you may be able to "get away" with it, be forewarned that even if your state does not have emissions testing, it is against the law to tamper with any emissions-controlling device on a vehicle. There are often VERY steep fines associated with this infraction.

With that said, it really comes down to personal choice. If you think it's worth the risk and you don't mind smelling unspent gas fumes, then it's a cheap modification that will free up a few horsepower. It's not going to be a gain you will really notice, but there is some slight gain shown through dyno testing. I wouldn't really bother with it unless you had a few other accompanying mods such as a better flowing intake and exhaust system.

i have spoon snorkel with k&n filter but i got a comptech filter on they way, as for exhaust i have not decided on one, im leaning towards just saving up to get a j's header and j's exhaust, theres no need for a test pipe with j's header back system, correct?

depends.

the 70rr is header back and bolts right up to the j's header.

the 60rs is a cat back and bolts up to the stock cat, or an after market one.

I have the Invidia. No CEL problems. Good throttle response. 3500RPM sounds a little ricey. Overall a cheap mod for torque.
Beware of the smog police.
