Default What type of engine? VXi

This is probably a very simple question but I would love to know the answer!
I'm in the UK, and have a 1993 Japanese import del sol which I've just bought. It's labelled as CR-X 1.5 VXi. (V-Tec engine)

I am trying to find out which engine I have. I have been told it is D15Z1, and I've been told by someone else it's a D16z6. It's looks like a B16 though!
Is it printed anywhere?

Many Thanks
Amanda

my guess is it is a d15, but not the d15z1. If it was it would have Vtec-E, I think. It is not a B series.

I dont know, but im pretty sure its not the d15z1

I think it's a d15b which is a single cam 1.5l VTEC. You can look at the engine block just to the left of the exhaust manifold and there will be a stamped engine code on it.

Brilliant!

There's masses of Japanese writing and then D15b right in the middle. Problem solved.

Thanks very much for your help.

Amanda.

Yes. When you open the bonnet, check where the red spot is in this picture:

You should see a stamp there with the engine code, like this:

Since it is an import from Japan, the code will only be 4 characters (i.e. "D15B").

there are several versions of d15b's

d15b = US version of D15Z1 (VTEC-E)
d15b = US version of d15b7 (non-vtec)
d15b = destroked d16z6 SOHC VTEC
d15b = 3 stage vtec (VTEC-E & VTEC)

However since your car is a 92-95, you won't have the OBD2 3stage vtec engine.

Hi, many thanks for that.

As I say, this is a JDM model. It was made in 1993 and imported from Japan in 2003. There is nothing printed on the engine block itself, but the stickers on the inside of the bonnet say D15B but with no further lettering after. I am just trying to download some pics of the engine etc.now.

Hi, thanks for that. I was just going by a pic of a B16 I saw on another site. Just trying to find out what engine it is.
I need new HT leads, and the company won't supply them unless I can tell them exactly what del sol V-Tec engine they are for.

By telling them it's just a JDM D15b you should be fine.

Some US companys don't support JDM models, then you have to figure out what parts from USDM D15 motors fit the JDM D15b....which is just research.

Amanda, for spark plug wires (HT leads), you can use the wires from any SOHC VTEC CR-X or Civic.

She's in the UK. I don't know why you're blabbering on about US companies and USDM parts.

Why are you calling them HT leads?

This is where your engine code is. Just clean it off and it will be there.

High Tension Leads, AKA High Tension Cords, AKA Spark PLug Wires.

UK = different terminology used for parts.

Hood = bonnet

Trunk = boot

Plug wires - HT leads

etc. etc.
