Default B16A valve tap

Ever since I swapped my motor out for the B16A it has always made a tapping noise, like a typewriter. The motor did come from Japan and it runs great, but the noise is annoying. The tapping is more noticable when the motor is cold and increases with the throttle opening. I thought it may have been a sticky injector at first so I swapped them out but still no success. I adjusted the valves and still no success. I even changed out the distributor, new cap and rotor as well. So I'm thinking it maybe in the head or something isn't getting lubricated, I don't know just guessing at this point. I was hoping there would be a Honda Guru on this message board somewhere that could help me out. TIA

I dunno, man... I had the same (or similar) problem with my D16A6... it was louder than hell! I think it might actually be the valves.

I have the same problem with my B16, and I have tried to replace and adjust everything you have. I also have a bogging problem sometimes which I think is related. I might have a broken valve spring??? My ticking is off and on, but usually on. Does the ticking affect anything else on the car???

The ticking doesn't affect anything I can see or feel. I do have a bogging problem but thats because I have an ITR intake manifold and it only happens when its cold outside which is bearable.

It could def. be your lifters....this is notorious in DSM's regardless of valve adjusting, it doesnt affect performance, its just annoying loud clatter, there is a way you can fix it but you risk hydro locking your engine

http://www.vfaq.com That site is for DSM's just go to it if your interested and look up valve clatter and such.....it tells you how to clean out your head.....Id type it but its really long, and I might forget things.

My first gen b16 does that too... especially when cold, but, i found it to be a cams thing... i put ctr cams in mine and thats why i think it makes that tapping noise...

I think it is normal, everyone on this thread has the same problem. I think its just the lifters that either need replacing or cleaning. Remember that our motors are about 10-12 yrs old or around abouts depending. I know mine was from an 88 Si-R. I'm gonna clean my junks out this weekend and i'll keep everyone posted.
