WTF Why is My Carpet Wet?
ok so i've been having a prob recently with my carpet gettin wet...i posted on another forum about this 2 months ago...heres what i said
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">so as a lot of u know its been raining on the east cost...A LOT especially on tuesday when it seemed as if someone just dumped a bucket of water over this city...and lately my car has been smellin all musty like a funky wash cloth that just sits somewhere and doesnt get to dry for example. so i smelled around and the smell was faint, i mainly smell it when i first enter the car after its been sitting closed up for a while. so i smelled around and eventually found that a section of my carpet is ****** wet, not exactly wet, but really damp. its like directly under the driver seat behind the front left area of the bolt for the seat...like in that corner behind that hump in the floor. its mostly wet there and as and u feel on the carpet toward the rear seats, it becomes less and less wet, but still relatively damp...
and its relatively damp on the other side under the passenger seat as well...at least i know whats causing the stink...but wtf, why is it wet there? what should i do?</TD></TR></TABLE>
then today i just found out i didnt solve the problem...i thought water was comin thru the rubber plug near the fuse box since i pushed it out a bit to fit amp wires thru. i had sealed it up with silicone sealant and i left my windows cracked everyday when the car was parked to get some air circulation in there and let it air out and dry...that was 2 months ago...end of august to be exact...
so yesterday and last night, it was raining pretty hard, and this morning, my car had that mildew odor again, and i find that same footing area behind and under the drivers seat is wet. so wtf else can this be?
should i double check the little drain hole at the bottom of the door to see if its clogged or something? i dunno....
another thing i noticed is that this only happens when i park on the street...and since the street is angled towards the sidewalk, my car is too....after the first time this happened which was 2 months ago when i made this thread, i started parking in a different place that wasnt angled....so i'm not sure if that has to do with my prob or not?.....someone help plz!!!
oh yea, overnight i forgot that i left my vents on defrost and the bottom foot area...and on recirculate...
is it possible for water to come thru that bottom vent under the drivers seat?
and i forgot to mention that the drivers side rear door window(the door where the carpet is wet) was replaced b/c some punk kid thru a rock at it...but that was like a year and a half ago, and i havent started having this prob until 2 months ago...so i dont think that should be the issue with the window bein improperly installed

hey
i have the same issue you speak off, my assumption was from when i washed my car water would get in, but i doubt that was the issue only thing i did to solve the problem was lift the carpet and let it dry out i could only do that on the front passneger seat but i couldnt do it for the rear drivers seat. Anyway i'm think theres a crack under the car but i looked and i heve not seen anything again if you wash your car and u use those self service car washes with the high powered nozzle spray be carefull not to force water in between your doors even if they are closed. So like yourself i'm stumped
keep me posted

had a civic come into my work today with the same problem. passenger side floor was wet, and there was about 2 in of water in the trunk. couldn't find out where it came from though.
i'll check my trunk spare tire well for water...i know a dude with a 4th gen had water come in thru cracks around the tail lights, the water would collect in the spare tire well in the trunk and when he would brake, the water would spill over into the cabin...
i have a 5th gen, so i dunno if that could be the prob

LOL, speaking of water in trunks i had a toyota camry that had a lake in the trunk. but it never went into the cabin not thata i paid attention.

i have lookd in my trunk and found no water 'cept fpr a small drop but nothing big, if you do find water in your trunk replace your trubk lid seals

I had the problem when I drove through a heavy rain about 4-5" of water - it wasn't enough to come up over the sides but it found a way to seep in and got my carpet wet, it only fully dried up like a month later

i have the same problem. like 2 inches of water usually more fills up in my trunk. I cant seem to find out where the water is coming in, it only does this when it rains not when i wash my car.
for ur prob, i would check the tail light gaskets and seals....b/c i know 4th gens have this prob and its usually water comin in through tail light cracks and whatnot
Stupid question but.. Ever have the door panel off? I've had some cases where the rain shield inside the door panel was ripped off to the point where water gets in and gets the floor all wet...
the only thing that i've had done to that door is have the window replaced...since some kid thru a rock at it. but it was replaced almost a year and a half ago.
the hard way....
when its gonna definetly rain pull out your driver seat, lower back seat and push your carpet to one side. find something to amuse yourself and sit in the car until you find the leak while it rains.
sunroof?
