Default Kakimoto R exhaust installed

If anybody can host them, and if anobody is interested, I have a few pictures of the Kakimoto R 70 mm cat back exhaust installed on my ITR.

EDIT: patience Micheal Delaney is working on it...

Looks nice, nothing too obtrusive...

One question that ALWAYS bugged me; is that a Sticker on the tip or a Badge? And if either, is there a way of removing it?

Hey T, is that the Exact Same one you are running now?

And one final Q: whats the sound like compared to stock? I don't want you to try and type the exact burbling sounds it makes, I'm curious as to how much louder it is than stock or compared to other setups?

We dont' hear alot about this system, mostly about Apexi N-1's, SMSP, Type-1 and so on. I am VERY concerend about 1.) Performance gotta be the 2.5" or equivelent 2.) Relatively Quiet 3.) NOT an attention getter, No Rice Rice baby!

Learn me more, T showed us some of the first PICS of that cannister and system awhile ago on SHO, but there just aren't alot of people running it and I'd like some more answers and opinions.

It is a "metallic" sticker. I'm certain it can be remove without problem. I left it there hoping BoomPlus Toys would send me a commision

I will let Tuan answer that one (but yes)

Well I must be carefull for the moment in comparing noise level because I have not driven the ITR in 8 months (just took it out from strorage yesterday) and it is louder then other cars but the Kakimoto is louder then the stock exhaust. It is a deep sound but it is not annoying. I will try to give my impression after a few days of driving to have a more general feel. And also a few comments from people outside the car.

From what I can see now, you have two out of three ("relatively quiet" beeing a subjective statement). It is a 2.625" ID exhaust so the performance is going to be there. From the picture, you can see it is not to ricey (the big tip acts like a heat shield so it is functionnal). The noise well, if you want performance, you will have to sacrifice a little bit. I will take some reading with a sound meter today and post the results.
Overall I am very please with my purchase. Very high quality. (keep in mind it needs to be cut for proper lenght on USDM ITR).

Actually you can use a shorter cat and not have to cut the system up. If the cat is built the same lengt as those used on the early GSRs when equipped with a JDM header everything should bolt right up.

Agreed and Understood;

I have followed this exhaust for a long time now, "over a year." I know Tuan runs it I was just looking for confirmation that it was the EXACT same one as his... The performance/sound is the issue. I can see that for looks it fills my bill. I have seriously considered SMSP's setup but, it comes in pieces, Hytech but, Only God knows when I'd get one from John damned F1 business keeps him so busy, Type-1 but, I have had alot of feedback about it being WAY TOO LOUD!

So you see my quest and quandry. Seems like the Kakimoto may just be the right one for me?!!! It will be mated to my 2.5"HF cat which is mated to my Spoon header. I could forsee some nice gains when all is done and go back to the dyno to tune it.

Thanks for the info, I look forward to you posting some results and impressions after a week or so.

And I have to agree that my R with Just the current mods is louder than my other cars AND, that I like it's sound and exhaust note. I am Purely looking for performance gains now and secondly wanting to maintain a low profile with the least noise and flash appeal.

Thanks again and good luck,

A.

1greyteg:

Are you planning to do any major engine work or just bolt-ons? In my opinion, I would only recommend going to a 2.5" exhaust only if you were to do major mods, but if your thinking of just bolt-ons, stick with stock or any straight thru 60mm exhaust (comptech, tanabe hyper medallion, & etc.). Just my 2 cents

Very nice exhaust. I don't think it would be "too" loud. Of course each persons definition of "loud" varies. I bet the Kakimoto N1 system is a little "loud"..

The Kakimoto R exhaust looks very good and from what I've hear it isn't too loud. How much does that system go for?

In the area of 700$ US. I paid 900$ CND plus shipping for mine from BoomPlus Toys (mafay2 on this board).

The Kakimoto R is in the area of $650 USD shipped to the US.

Yes, it need to be modify to fit on a ITR, but I would assume the people that would interested on this exhaust would have at least a 2.5" collector header, so you can just go out and buy a GSR length cat for it, and everything will bolt right up.

As for sound, it is definitely much quieter than the N1 style exhaust.

I remember that someone (is it EGtoR??) on this board posted a dyno that see over 10whps gain in midrange and 7 whps peak gain over a stock b-pipe w/ Spoon N1 on a Toda Spec B set up.

To be exact, I just spoke to Morris at Boomplus toys and the current group buy sale price of it is: $630. $70. for shipping to the states and $13.25 for tax, So for around $713. I will have a higher flowing exhaust that I need before I strap the car back up and tune away.

Thank you azn98R for your concern and help but, I have been really holding off on this mod for awhile. I have studied alot on this subject for awhile and do understand the need for a higher flowing catback to mate to my current setup. I am NOT doing it for looks or sounds At ALL. I already have a good intake, header and cat, all I need before I dyno tune again is a good well designed free flowing exhaust. I realize that the ITR's OEM catback is very good, BUT, it still has a bottleneck hindering flow.

Hell, I am Very outspoken about Not needing a catback as a FIRST mod. Truth is that I am staying out of the engine "no cams" for now and am concentrating on completing the I/H & E so I can Tune the most out of the car now. Everyone already knows that I promote SMSP and Hytech as excellant setups but, as I mentioned I am looking for minimal work to be done for install and ease of availibility, as of course performance and sound level being important points as well.

Competition in local SM class is getting tougher and though I work on my skill & abilities as much as possible I can always appreciate a few more ponies and TQ, Who doesn't? Since tuning is a now thing and Cams aren't till I set the car up fully for track-only, meaning stripped and caged, I want a good setup that could also be used WITH cams down the road.

Thanks for the responses guys, and heres a link to Boom plus toys site all about the Kakimoto lineup: http://www.kakimotoracing.com/index1024.html All of their stuff looks good, they even offer a Ti setup for SERIOUS racing applications.

Good luck all,

A.

1 Grey Teg....
the price was actually lower! heehee like I told you their was a group buy pricing in which I can offer to you... but when and if you are ready, give me a call again and I will discuss about the pricing with you again!
Just to inform you and the rest of the boys here... the GT1.0Z for the DC2 will be available at the end of May/ early June. It is a full cat back lightweight system.. I estimated the full system to be about 15lbs or so. Once it arrives, we will get someone to post the pics up! Titanium version will follow in the next month or so!

Haaa HAH!

I found you...

Great, thanks a Lot... I will be in contact shortly.

It is Morris correct? I wouldn't want to have misprinted that for Norris or Boris or Rorris or something similarly embarrassing.

You friendly helpful shop owners make this hobby way too easy. It's a dangerous thing You know? Now my wife even accompanies me to local X's, I'm sure I'll be poor forever But, happy as Hell all the time !

Yes, BPT DC5 is Morris. Not Norris or Borris!!

I was surprise he told you it is $630, I guess it is actually cheaper than that.

The smallest section in the Kakimoto R catback is 2.5" ID, which is at the cat flange. The rest of the system is 67mm.
