Default Embarassing clutch release fork question

Well, I just dropped a new motor in the car. I'm kicking myself for not double checking this before installing the tranny, but there should be tension on the shift release fork once everything is bolted together correct?

It should be pushing towards the right/driver's side, while the slave cylinder pushes to the left to release the clutch correct?

I'm hoping that it's just the slave cylinder and that I don't have to drop the tranny again.

Thanks,

Lamar

edit:

Shouldn't the release fork rest in the direction of the white arrow when the slave cylinder is removed?

if you try moving it with your hand and there is no tension, then sorry to say but its time to rip the tranny back out..

You have my deepest sympathy. At least you know what the problem is instead of dropping the tranny 4 times & then getting fed up & taking it to a mechanic.

No sir...

Just dropped it inspected everything and still the same issue.

Is the fork supposed to rest in the middle of the opening or should it sit to the right or left with the clutch disengaged?

I'm 99% sure that my slave cylinder **** the bed too.

edit: I'll post a vid when I can find my point & shoot camera.

edit 2: Are 92-95 and 96-00 flywheels the same? For the time being, I'm using a D15B8(CX) tranny on a D16Y7 motor.

It should go towards the driver's side.

I think mine had a little slack in it, so if it's still on the car and it's ready to be driven you can always take it out & see.

mine just sits right in the middle. The release bearing slides smoothly, but there's absoloutely no tension on the release fork.

make sure the spring that is on the inside of the release fork is sitting right on the little "nipple" on the inside of the tranny if it is, and your still not getting tension it might be that spring that is your problem..

Well, the spring is positioned properly, and it's not deformed, but there is still no tension.

The only thing providing resistance is the slave cylinder. If it were disconnected, the fork would stay in the middle.

yea mine went out too last week. Make sure the hardline going to it doesnt leak, like mine did. Dry clutch reservoir sucks.

well a bad slave cylinder would be really obvious as it would be leaking.. did you try bleeding the system?

I bled the system, and it wasn't really obvious that it was leaking. When the pedal was pressed, it would squirt directly on the ground. Upon inspection, the seal was moist, but not enough to lead me to believe that there was a leak.
