Default Slipping Shifter in a 98 Civic Ex

Hey guys, I'm sorry I double posted this, but the misc. tech forum seems pretty dead. Maybe people here can help me.

Something is wrong with my tranny but I haven't the foggiest idea what. When I drive, even if I don't push the clutch in I can pull the shifter out of 2nd and 3rd. When I do this the gears disengage too. What could be causing this? It's only in 2nd and 3rd gear, all the other gears lock out and I can't move the shifter until I put my foot down.

Thanks for any help.

Ok...but I don't think it's supposed to do that. Anybody else?

mine does that in 4th (as far as i know, i havent tried with other gears because it doesnt seem right) but i did it by accident. im not quite sure if its supposed to do that or not but my friends accord does the same thing. for my car, once i reach a certain mph i can pull the car from 4th gear to neutral (im assuming other gears as well as long as the rpm's are high enough) hope that helped

Is this a bad thing? Or is it something I can just live with and doesn't really affect the car? If I should do something about it, what should I do?
